Everyone has their human defenses and frame of reference. I derive the same benefit from talk shows as I do forums: I learn a lot by listening to honest people who disagree with each other make their cases. I get to hear fresh points of view, and I get to see long-standing arguments get deconstructed.

That's great and that does keep things interesting. As you said, everyone is different and we can learn from all.

Are these people who you actually believe were the best radio or television talk show hosts?

No, just some that others may like. I think Johnny Carson was pretty good.
Who do you think is best?

I am glad you asked that question, @Ken Anderson , because I was wondering the same thing. I had decided that @Jake Smith must listen to every single talk show host on television and was a big fan of all of them.
Since I do not watch television, I have never even heard of a lot of those talk show hosts.

I listened to Art Bell on Coast to Coast AM, back when Art was still alive, and I listened to George Noory also, but liked Art much better. John B.Wells was the host of C2CAM for a while, and he went on to host Caravan to Midnight, which is also an awesome talk show with some great guest speakers.
Those would be the ones that i consider to be the best of the best, along with the Great Rush Limbaugh, of course.

At one time or another, I have heard pretty much all of them. But I like hearing others' opinions about them, so I put up a variety of hosts, with different outlooks, to get feedback from different posters here.:)

    John B. Wells.
Time Out Productions presents radio show host John B. Wells. Caravan to Midnight (CTM) has the best talk and best guests every week on real, hard-hitting

The thread is fine, but the question posed in the title is who do we think was the BEST host, so that's what we were asking about. Personally, I'd like to know who people thought was the best.

I put up Andrew Wilkow, but did not say why I think he is the best. He is long on facts & logic and shies away from rhetoric. He's on Sirius XM Patriot Channel 125, M-F Noon-3PM. But that's in the news genre.

Of course, Carson was the best in the entertainment industry. You always learned lots about the guests. Johnny had a casual conversational style.

I don't know that I have a favorite; I remember watching Johnny Carson sometimes with my dad. I like to watch the old interviews from The Dick Cavett Show on Youtube. I watched one earlier where he was interviewing Jimmy Hoffa and Melvin Belli in 1973.

Funny, I was gonna mention Cavett. He started off as a writer for Jack Parr.
