I'm sure the families of the 3 Dutch Commando shot, one killed couple weeks ago, could attest to this. https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=8839...pcy1vbmUtaW4tY3JpdGljYWwtY29uZGl0aW9uLw&ntb=1
Australia would have been my choice, too... except I don't want to be so far from my kids and grandkids. (Assuming they'd all still be in the USA.) So I'll have to stick with Canada. Though Mexico might be an equally good choice. I feel like it wouldn't be much different anyway with all the Hispanics here.
Possibly Western Canada in a warm spot, but maybe Tasmania, Australia, or maybe Andalucia, Spain. Western Canada because it is close and I know it. Tasmania, Australia because I knew a person from there once and it sounds nice. Andalucia, Spain because I know several people there and love the music, art, and architecture.
But then again, Maybe New Zealand. I could go and live with the hobbits if I got a motorized scooter.
Everyone here knows my choice and I have not regretted it yet. Living in a third world country is really not so bad. The other day my daughter and I were on a motorbike heading into town as we live in the countryside. On a back road far from any houses we had a flat tire. The first person that came by stopped and seen the problem he told my daughter to call his boy to bring a new tube air pump and wrenches to repair the tire. Over the next half hour everyone on the road stopped to see if we needed help some we knew others were total strangers. The person came to repair the tire and within a short time we were on our way. It is a totally different world living where all people suffer but ban together to help each other.
My Brother spends a lot of time in the Dominican Republic and keeps trying to get everyone down there to experience it. He's a teacher and helps at the schools when he can. Don't advertise or all the icky normal people will come down.
There is a trick to live here don't show off because you will become a target. If you get to the countryside and act like a normal person you are safe. been here over 20 years no problem but got a lot of help.
I'd choose Portugal. It's lovely country, has many pros as well as cons, but I liked it there a lot. Nearly bought a piece of property in the Algarve 70 yrs. ago. Kicking myself ever since for not doing so.
New Zealand probably wouldn't be a bad choice. I don't know much about it but the pictures are beautiful.
Dunno anymore. I think I’d have to travel a bit more to make that kind of decision but in a way, I think I wouldn’t mind spending some time in the D.R., right next door to @Martin Alonzo, just so he could teach us the ropes. With the exception of the occasional hurricane threats, the weather is nice all year around and its reported that the Dominican Republic is around 60% less expensive to live than the average living expense here in the States. There’s a lot of beach for sun and swimming and it looks like if one were to choose to have a garden, that would be a go too. From my understanding, politically speaking, the DM is a representative Democracy but the President wields a lot of power which is pretty much what the U.S. is becoming so I guess I could get used to it. The down side would be it’s only about 50 miles from Cuba and abuts Haiti which are two countries that I am not particularly fond of. Note: I like Cubans in general but the country’s politics are a little uncomfortable for me. So far as Haiti goes, well…I’ve lived and worked with a lot of Haitians and perhaps it’s just the culture that I can’t totally grasp but I had experienced more unpleasantries than not when dealing with the people in the past.
I think one of the hang-ups might be the way the OP is phrased. I mentioned a couple of places I wouldn’t mind looking at but the question is, what would make me Have to leave the U.S.? I mean, whatever scenario I try to spin, there isn’t a whole lot that would have the ability to force me to leave my own country. To be sure, if I had to leave the country then that would mean that I’d pretty much have to leave everything behind and start out anew would it not? Naw….I think when I quit being upset when someone abuses my country’s banner or stop tearing up when I hear our nation’s anthem being played, that’s when I’ll put some serious thought about bugging out but until that happens, I’m good. Notably, I’m not beyond going on a small adventure and visit some places I have never been but to leave the U.S. on a permanent basis is a stretch of the imagination I really do not want to entertain.
