How many here have been to Alaska, at least for a visit? Has anyone else lived here for a year or more? I know @Bobby Cole spent some time here, but perhaps not a winter? Alaska is as large as 1/5 the entire contiguous U.S. and has more coastline than the rest of the country combined. Lots to see....
My brother-in-law lived there for a few years in a totally off the grid cabin. No running water, no electricity. In his younger days, of course. Going to Alaska is on my to-do list. Maybe next summer.
I haven't, but I almost moved there when Marie and I were first married. Think I could've handled it back then, seeing how I was used to hunting and cleaning animals for food. Now not so sure, that I could handle the cold cold weather. As you know, my niece and her hubby and six kids live there now.
Don, I did a boat cruise along the Inside Passage. Beautiful country. Seems like it might be a great place to live, but I was there in July. How are the winters where you live?
No winters. I arrived at the beginning of April and left in the middle of August. I was however, asked if I wanted to extend my stay with the company and travel to the shores of the Bering Sea for the winter to which I most adamantly declined. Heck, I don’t even like the winters in Alabama…….!
I've seen pics of the pure blue glaciers a friend brought back from a trip. Lots and lots of beauty there. I've never been.
I have never been to Alaska, and never even wanted to go there. My daughter went on one of the boat cruises along the Canadian and Alaskan coastline, and she loved it ! She posted some beautiful pictures, too. I have a step-daughter who has lived near Palmer for maybe 20 years, and she loves living in Alaska. I do remember listening to “Sergeant Preston of the Yukon” when I was a kid, if radio shows count.
I've never been and haven't had much interest in going. When my sister and brother-in-law were RVing a lot they always planned to take the Al-Can and do some exploring, but they didn't want to go alone and we had zero interest in driving an RV that far.
It is a long drive, but the scenery along the way is stunning! Gas and diesel prices in Canada were terrible even before Biden's war on energy, but I cannot believe you would not find the trip worthwhile should you decide to go. Just allow at least a week to drive across Canada.
