People are quick to point out that motorcycles are dangerous, perhaps because they don't offer the crash protection that a car does. For comparison, you could make the argument that shoes are dangerous. Used in the transportation of a person from one place to another, pedestrian deaths per year are close to 7,000 while motorcycle deaths are around 6,000 per year. Of course, there are more people riding "shanks ponies" than motorcycles.
To get an accurate comparison you'd have to determine what percentage of the total number of pedestrians versus total number of motorcyclists. I imagine the number of pedestrians is much higher.
You are correct but it is still a stat that I like to throw out when people call motorcycles "donor-cycles" or say they are dangerous. Life, including flying, riding or walking, is danger with the level of danger being affected by your skill. .
