Kinda worries me in a way. When teachers have to be taught to do research, I wonder about the outcome of their past students. Hinduism is indeed…a religion just as Atheism is a religion.
John Houlihan, The fact believers outnumber the Atheists in India...as ignorance outnumbers knowledge doesn't change Hinduism .into a religion.
Silvia, we agree on some things and disagree on others. Part of the problem is what the words "atheism" and "religion" mean. It might help the discussion if you would: 1. Tell me what you mean by "atheist". 2. Tell me what you mean by "religion". Namaste.
John Houlihan, 1. Tell me what you mean by "atheist".\ A = No, theist = God..........NO GOD Simple? 2. Tell me what you mean by "religion". A lot of BS used to manipulate people.
If that is so, @Silvia Benoit ; why in the world are you spending so much time in the religion threads in the first place ? By your own words, it is a waste of your time.
Defining a word isn’t sarcasm nor BS as you call it. Many are those who are attempting to redefine normal everyday words to fit their own agenda such as the definitions of woman and man. It’s a given that on a personal level you can call the moon the sun and the sun the moon but that doesn’t mean that it’s a fact for everyone else. Note: My friend Ravi confirmed for me that he sees Hinduism as a religion. Seeing that he’s a practicing Hindi, I’ll take his word way over yours.
Are you OK lately? Just asking how you are. Things are going badly for a lot of us. Further down from this post you say you don't bother with sarcasm. Just hoping you are not just being contrary for other reason.
Silvia, I did like your answers which is why I checked the "like" box on your post. I am grateful to you for your answers because I never have had the opportunity to talk with an atheist and find out what he or she believes. So far, you have only told me what you do not believe in. If you feel like sharing, please tell me what you do believe life is all about.
Somewhere in between atheists and devout religious people lies a large group of agnostics who don't know what to believe. They may believe in a higher power but avoid organized religion. Some would like to believe but are unable to without proof. Some vacillate back and forth, believing and yet questioning that belief at the same time. I guess my point is, how can any of us know what the truth is for sure until our life is over? How can we argue that our point of view is the correct one when we simply don't know what happens when we die? I don't mean to fan the flames here. I just don't see the point in arguing about things when we will never know who is correct.
You could just ask me. I'll tell you. More seriously, that was a good post. Although I have been a Christian for well over fifty years, there are times when I am feeling more agnostic and, even when I am quite certain that God exists and that there will be a life after death, I don't know what that life will look like. The Bible talks more about hell than about heaven.
