Who is best? It is impossible to ever get a consensus because of the varied genres and styles. I could fill pages with amazing finger pickers and flat pickers both men and women, but I will stick to the more difficult style of using the thumb and fingers of the right hand known as fingerpicking. Right hand fingerstyle Some of my favorites in different genres one man and one women Flamenco Sabicas Antonia Jiménez . She invented the style of using a right-handed guitar upside down which made the treble notes played with the thumb instead of the bass. Jimmi Hendriks didn't invent this reverse style for lefties as many think.
I’m trying to keep up but at this point, it’s getting impossible. Not trying to go too far off topic but for the last 4 days I have been getting massive music files called “dad’s music” delivered via dropbox. My dad had a huge collection of old classic jazz musicians (and newer) he either bought on discs or had them burned which my younger brother somehow acquired and is sending copies of them to me. Once delivered to dropbox, I then download the batches and will eventually separate everything onto flash drives for my listening pleasure. About 50 gigs worth I suspect. And, since dad played rhythm guitar, 95% of the music is yes…guitar based and pretty much the artists I listened to and loved earlier in life. There’s even some music that I might have to don a pair of sunglasses and say, “cool” every so often just to be in the moment. Anyone for some Bradford Marsalis?
So, your from a musical family too, so are we who is your favorite guitarist? I think Branford Marsalis was a great sax player.
