Call me crazy - Not, but I am not a big believer of coincidence. this morning I sent an email to someone, and the only so called unusual word was- Murphy bed. Within seconds of closing email and go to another page- what pops up- a Murphy bed. We all have discussed this to some degree on another thread. Even some items we post about on here, like in the shopping threads, have you noticed those items popping up later in ads ?
In a way - a small one, is almost funny. But mainly aggravating ,irritating and annoying.
Also, make sure you phone is out of range when you discuss a private matter.
Another irritating factor, is mention of a medical issue you or someone you know has, and bam ads galore with that issue and related ones. Plus added bonus- how the meds you are seeking for comfort can also kill you. Lovely ain't it? Instead of bombarding me with ads that only irritate, why not just send me a email telling me how to correct my problem? i mean seriously, your already in the conversation why not verbally put your two cents worth in ? :D

Yes, our privacy is being invaded so that they can bombard us with ads that they think we will be interested in. There was a new building going up here in Huntsville, so I looked online and found that it was going to be luxury apartments. Naturally, facebook is now showing me ads for luxury apartments.
I don’t like it, but my thought is that any company or government that wants to get my information is going to be able to do it one way or another. Even companies and government agencies with all sorts of security get hacked nowadays.
So, I just do what I want and do not let it worry me, since there is nothing short of moving out off the grid entirely that will protect us from this, and even then, there is satellite surveillance.

Most of the free web-based email services listen in on what you write. Gmail is reputed to be the worst and it even copies and stores any attachments you send. I have no idea what they do with such info other than use it to sends you ads. Emails provided by you ISP should be better, but would change when/if you change providers. There are paid email services that are web-based that are supposed to be quite good. Of course, anything you put on social media is public domain even if you think you are sending it "privately" or to a small group of friends. Everyone views privacy differently. I am one who wants to keep as much as I can.

We hear about all kinds of “SMART” now days, from smartphones and smart cars, to smart homes. It all sounds good, that we now have devices that are smart enough to do things that other , earlier devices could not do.
However, it turns out that the word “smart” , in this case, is actually an acronym, just like RADAR, and many other acronyms we use all the time like they are real words.
Here is what it really means.

Exactly! George Orwell could never have imagined that people would actually voluntarily carry all the reporting devices on them where ever they go.

I leave my tv on all the time, watching or not, although might not continue to do this with our WEC raising rates dramatically. Anyway, I burned out the picture on our first flatscreen recently. Repair shop said it 'could not be repaired' because the parts cost too much. (they also sell tvs ; )
Walmart was having a 'big sale' on tvs now. But all of them are smart. So I searched Scepter tvs and a few came up. They are stupid tvs. Still cheap.
When cell phones came out, my friend was angry that I did not get one. She said it was rude of me not to be available for her to call me.:D:D She went so far as to say she would buy me one:confused: That is when I got my first flip phone.
Yeah they can find me. But I want as much control as I can get.
I dropped on phone in the toilet, one in the hay,.....

My phone is with me constantly. One because I fear of falling again. I would see no use in having a cell phone if I did not take it with me when out of my home. Like my cane it comes in handy for many things. We do not have a landline here, but had one before and never really used it. There is an advantage to having both, if you can afford.
As a single woman living alone, um I would take my cell phone with me.

Landlines work when cellphones don't, so it is not a bad thing to have one anyway.
