present ideas for my 16 year old grandson. These suggestions can include those that you remember when your children were younger as well, don't hold back. Thank you.
What is your grandson interested in? My teenaged boys always appreciated knives if they were into the outdoors or hunting and fishing. Some like the video game stuff or (believe it or not) Legos, but probably not at 16.... Don't the parents have suggestions?
Parents were helpful basketful, video games, stuff like that but I'm looking for something different. I've talked to him about fishing and he didn't seem interested.
Yeah, I've been up since 3am. It has been this way for about two weeks now. I sleep about two hours during the day twice. I'm just going with the flow.
Just taking a wild stab here but I searched on Amazon for “build your own kits for adults” and it came up with a plethora of projects that a 16 year old might be interested in and at the same time gain a little education. Of note was an age specific remote controlled car that has to be built pretty much from scratch for $42. It looks like they had a 9-12 years old version and the 14-16 year old version etc….. I didn’t look very far but there might even be an electronic girl catcher there somewhere. After all, at 16, attracting girls is what most young men are interested in. Maybe a gym membership? Lotsa girls go to gyms….
I would say a gift that could be a win-win for him and you would be a crossbow. Ok I apologize and will suggest an electronics kit and I would suggest either a radio or a robotic type kit because he can enjoy the results once he builds it. Amazon has some electronics kits by ELEGOO that are more directed at learning computer functions. It depends on how much you want to spend and what his interest is. My preference would be a shortwave RECEIVER radio kit, but those seem to have vanished from the market. The excitement of hearing a foreign broadcast on something you build is special. I think any DIY kit that might interest him is a gift that he would remember being given by his DIY grandma. Make him build it! That will open new doors for life. Wood and crafts kits can be fun also. PS You might want to get two and build one for yourself.
On second thought, scrap the electronic educational junk. My choice is a cigar box guitar kit. https://www.amazon.com/Complete-Pur...63-997e-4c0cd6b58ed4&pd_rd_i=B00NAJH76I&psc=1 Dazie Rae rocks the Chicago blues
And so will your grandson be in just a few weeks. Maybe DIY Grandma wants to build one for him. Let Moses help get you started. He has separate videos on making the neck, fretting, etc. I like his approach.
Von, I have a lot of grandkids and used to drive myself (and their parents) crazy trying to come up with gifts for them. Finally I told them all to create a wish list on Amazon or they would just get money. The older ones chose cash and the younger ones like picking stuff for their wish lists. It's easy for me to just "click" on something and let Amazon handle it from there.
