I was scrolling through the web and I must have touched a button that took me to a high speed chase thru the city streets of greater L.A.
The suspect in the chase drove thru city streets at high speeds... 70+mph. Dozens and dozens of cops everywhere and numerous helicopters. Three times the suspect stole cars, broke into an occupied house where the man and a woman fought him. But the suspect beat them off and somehow managed to steal their pickup truck.

The cops are supposed to protect us. Right ? At any moment, the extremely dangerous suspect could easily have rammed a car loaded with kids. During the chase, which lasted an hour an a half, the cops seemed more concerned with their own safety than of the public. Numerous time the cops had him pinned , BUT they failed to capture or kill him.

All I can say is that if my life/family was in danger, I now realize the average citizen would be much braver than the cops. Finally, after the cops had the suspect outnumbered 40 to 1 and a standoff of 30 + minutes they captured him.

If you are looking for police who don't mollycoddle runners and don't make a parade out of the chase, check the Arkansas Police Activity.

Perhaps if you had seen the same video, you'd agree with me. The couple who had their home invaded , fought the suspect. The woman literally hung on to the suspect like a terrier while the man punched him. (video from helicopter.) The cops, however, even when they had the suspect pinned with their cars, hid behind their cruisers , with guns drawn, while the suspect rammed his way out of the trap.

Cops act real brave when they have a person in a helpless position, but if there is any danger, they need dozens and dozens of "back ups"

They aren't allowed to do their jobs thanks to the pandering politicians. Today the first thing that happens when a thug or criminal is taken down all the morons are standing there with their cell phone cameras hoping to have the policeman charged for doing his job. Blame these morons elected in every city USA, half are probably past criminals with records. In the 60s Houston cops were but a very few in number, they handed out a special justice until someone went to far and came up with the throw down weapons. I know for a fact in 1971 Houston had 8 patrol cars on duty. Not a lot of force and you could tell they were no where to be found, the streets were empty and you could party all night and never see a police car in the area.

Most of the crime is coming from out of state and they rob rape and pillage and leave for home. That is what has happened to Las Vegas, all the thugs from LA come to Vegas on a weekend because traffic is high going back to LA so they can do their robbing and stealing without worrying about being out on 15 alone. They also take the back way back to California going thru Shoshone. That's why California keeps a Highway Patrolman out in that desolate part of California, it is not highly populated and the thugs always think they are smarter than the police.
When you are browsing again on youtube look for Doughnut Operator, he is an ex cop and has most of the really good take downs and chases. Youtube is always censoring most of those videos but there are so many lately they have put a simple warning on the start because it takes up so much of their time to review all the crime videos !!! We honestly live in a war zone thanks to ignorant elected people. It's like someone let the fox into the hen house. Not going to ever change until America finally gets enough of these morons being elected into local government and are releasing pure animals back on our streets.

All of us have seen video of high speed police chases thru our streets. Obviously, these are extremely dangerous, not just for the suspect and police, but also for innocent drivers, and pedestrians in the streets. The suspect drivers don't give a darn who they injure/kill in their attempt to escape the police.
It is only a matter of time until a mom, with a car full of kids are stuck and killed.

I have often wondered if there is some way of bringing the chase to an early end. Much sooner than is done now ?

What if there was some way of " shooting a metal arrow into the bodywork of the suspect auto. That "arrow would have an electric charge and it would short out the engine electric system " ?

I think that the body work of a car in NEGATIVELY charged. BUT, what if the body could be deliberately charged POSITIVELY ? Wouldn't that fry the elec system ?

Does anyone know about such things ?

edit to add: My idea is to have the "arrow" attached to wires which are charged from the police cruiser.

So, are you saying that such an electrified "arrow" could fry the elec system in the suspect car and stop instantly stop it ?

In any event, there must be some way to fry the elec system in a high speed car escaping the police.
I had envisioned a DC charge, NOT an AC charge.

I can't recall if I've seen this in a movie or not...RC cars might be the answer. They can go a high rate of speed, they are small enough to fit under the suspect's vehicle, and I'd imagine it would be easy enough to have them camera/radar controlled so they can chase a specific vehicle without having human hands on a controller. Or perhaps an aerial drone.

I wonder if you could create a single technology that would disrupt both gas and electric vehicles.

Sometimes Officers will stop a chase, but they really want to get the person. There is a certain amount of risk in any kind of police work and that includes the public being involved. Same as joining the military.

When I was an EMT, and got a Code 3/Emergency call (lights/siren), there were those that simply wouldn't pull over for me. Going Code 3/Emergency is always dangerous, not only for the emergency vehicle, but for the public as well.

Does anyone know if a car/truck can be shorted out ?

Let's say a car is running normally. If you took a heavy battery cable from another running car and attached the POSITIVE cable from the 2nd car to the BODY of the 1st car (which you were trying to short out) would that short it out ?

Decades ago , I removed a weak 12 volt car battery and I was charging it . I accidentally dropped a wrench on the charging battery and it touched BOTH positive and negative poles. The battery blew up.

There is no safe way to end a high speed chase. There was one near here a couple of days ago and the runner led police on a fifty mile or more chase. They used every tactic they had and he didn't stop. They finally did the tactic where they use police cars to block the road. The sob ran off the road to evade the block, down an embankment and hit a tree. All this while having his 2 year old child in the car. The child had serious injuries.

But are the police just supposed to let the criminals escape?
