You probably have the same problem I have, DDD . Your vertebrae in your upper spine n eck area have collapsed and pushing against the nerve sack of your spine. 6 years ago mine started as a bad pain at ear level on both sides of my head. It steadily got worse and I finally saw a neurosurgeon at the spine clinic. He looked at an mri I brought with me and came back and said "man, you're neck is messed up". I told him you need to see if from my side. Nothing can be done unless I wanted to live like Herman Muster and never turn my head again. I have a terrible grinding noise when it starts another session of collapsing.

One thing did help for a year and it was steroid injection on the points that were in the worst shape. It last about a year then the pain started coming back. I live on two Tylenol per day 650Mg. Just this evening I was trying to nap and had to get up because I was having some awful pain. The specialist told me that in some cases the pain can go away it just depends how bad the vertebra are pushing against the nerve sack. He said some people recover completely or at least without any more pain. It is just a case of luck I guess. I know one drug does help the pain but off hand I can't remember the name of it. The VA gave me a prescription and it was doing no good for my neck but was helping my knee pain.

They gave me a nerve relaxer and it nearly killed me. One dose and I had to stay in bed until it had worn off,. I poured all of them into the toilet and never had another. MY neck was on fire and I guess because the drug was built to attack the location of the pain it was too much. The best I have found over the counter recently is Bayer Back n Body pain reliever pills. In the large Bayer Yellow with purple graphics on the box. It kills the knee pain and the neck pain. Only problem for me the stores where I live rarely stock them.

I know the feeling, dealing with your phobia isn't exactly good for the health either.:p Being a germ fanatic in an ER around a gang of sick people during Covid wasn't a day at the park.
Of course, you do come in handy when I'm down.

They have put me threw the ringer in last 3 years now, so I can joke around about Jakes phobia but he has been there all the way.
Pain is bad but 'I can stand a little pain'[ Beth I'm not going to put it up, but I know you like the song. :p].
I have had my stomach torn open after C-section and pushed my muscles back inside taped them up and took a bus to ER with 3 babies in tote, bus driver thought I was going to bleed to death. I set my own bones at home while Jake, cats and dogs ran out yelling after I screamed. Jake said," don't do it".I knocked my 2 toes back into place when I could catch my breath, I then set my toes, my foot was black so decided to go to er, dr laughed and said you did a great job setting those bones.

I’m not saying that it’s an absolute but there’s a lot of information on YouTube on how to get rid of white coat syndrome (hypertension).
Personally, if a doctor doesn’t just leave it alone after a high reading, I do a quick mental adjustment and take a couple of very deep calming breaths and it seems to work very well.

I will check that out, thanks, Bobby. I've tried deep breaths and telling myself everything is fine but to no avail for me. Just keeps going up for some reason. I really see this as a bad threat, as we age and have to be around the white coats more often. My dentist started prescribing valium for me when I came in and even that and bp meds didn't get it down, so she would say, I'm not checking it again and went to work on me anyway. So it wasn't a good experience for me. Don't remember it being that way when I was younger, but it's a problem for me now.

Could be. Even when it's not hurting, I can often feel something like grinding when I turn my neck. Actually, when I was in my mid-20s, a doctor in California diagnosed me with arthritis in my neck. I took Clinoril for a few years before moving to Texas. It didn't make sense that I would have arthritis in my neck at that age, so I never renewed the subscription after moving to Texas. I mentioned it to a doctor there, and he didn't see any signs of arthritis, so I'm not sure what that was all about.

Simple fluid loss is the main cause, the cushioning of our vertebrae is sustained from fluid or water, not to mention gravity :D I have never ever been a water drinker. I drink coffee and sodas and little water. One of the things that was mentioned was to drink lots of water, I still don't but really should. The damage is already done and I doubt drinking more water would have any effect. They say that our water levels and need was the only thing our body was not designed with, no gauge to tell us that we need water. We all wait until we are thirsty to drink.

Maybe mother nature was busy when that should have been dropped into our dna. If you have grinding you definitely need to have an mri of the neck and see a specialist. Some times they can help but it depends how far along the deterioration has become. Nothing can be done for mine other than those steroid shots but I only got two, one for the neck and the other for the lower back. If it were just one vertebra causing the pain you possibly could be one of the lucky ones that the pain just goes away. That is why you should have it looked at to determine how serious it is. Mine started years ago but I was never one to go running to the doctor when I had a pain, and being a mechanic I was always in pain. I will just keep handling it best I can. Also I forgot to mention that the nerve damage being caused is enough to make you have pains in your upper body, chest arms and shoulders. It makes you feel like you're having a heart attack sometimes. I learned to keep track of my activities and so I don't worry about the false pain. I hope you get some relief because I definitely know what it feels like.

If I have posted this before ? Pardon my repeating.

I'll shorten as much as I can.

I took up boxing @ 14 yrs of age. All amature, & mostly during highschool . As such I followed a boxers training . When I got to working two jobs [while I was married] 18-22, I relaxed my workouts . I also ate a proper diet .... mostly fish . After my divorce I got back to it .... and i kept it pretty strict. @ 51 I had a heart attack ... Ok, work through it go on. @ 65 in 2016 I developed arthritis, spinal stenosis, pre-diabetes & peripheral nuropathy . Now I can no-longer workout, it's just to painful. I still eat properly, but I have to ask .... what good did all that do ? After all that diet and proper eating , on some days I can barely walk over & make another cup of coffee.

Needless to say, I am no longer a big fan of proper diet & exercise. I am now more on board with enjoy life ! I firmly believe we are a product of genetics/our parents .. period. And i really doubt there is much we can do to change our physical destiny.

About 8 years ago I was walking my lovely dog (now departed) on her lead when she suddenly lunged forward to chase a squirrel, my middle finger got bent backwards by the lead and got sprained quite badly, I had to have it strapped to the finger next to it for it to heal. Even now years later my finger gets sore and stiffens up, but it does bring back happy memories of walking my lovely dog.

I could post once again about all my aches and pains and even though I am aching once again to whine about all my pains, I will digress rather than become a big pain to the entire forum. ;)

I agree with that totally. My joint and back pains came from my Mother, Grandmother had nothing like that and she lived to 93 and just got tired and lay down and fell asleep and never woke up. Of course the doctor knew she was near the point of dying and called my Mother to come be with her. My Mother went and stayed with her the final day and ask her if she wanted something to eat, she said yes I would like two Tacos and a Beer. My Mother brought her the meal and she ate and told her I feel sleepy and she went and took her last rest. Now my Mother died at 90 but that was due to an infected knee replacement from some years earlier. This was at the height of the covid in Las Vegas so she was pretty much a prisoner and they removed the plastic from that one bad knee hoping they could control the infection and replace it. It wasn't to be for her and she got tired of suffering and shut off all the prolonging and of course they had no authority to over ride her wishes. She died peacefully but not from anything other than being man made. I would never have any plastic glued to my bones. I am going to just take life with what comes with it, not make more trouble for myself. Having hobbies that can be done at home to keep our Brains working is a good thing.
