Now thats what I call 'dependable'. Too bad we don't chop wood or have coal.. I sure can remember those wood and coal stoves when younger.
I can’t handle gas cookers they make me cough and interestedly there was a new story on my Apple News on my iPad today about gas appliances Hope this link works for anyone who cares to read https://apple.news/AqYbDHfPGRKWgn95ehKhZgQ @Marie Mallery
My advise would be to buy the least technological gas stove. IMO there is no need for any tech. The less tech, the more things are likely to go bad. Only make sure that the oven can reach a high temp in case you ever want to make biscuits. The best biscuits need to have a temp of at least 425 F to rise high and be light.
Gas and wood stoves will be illegal shortly. Carbon foot prints, don'tcha know. News of laws regarding gas appliances in New York and California are concerning.
I have a Frigidaire gas stove that's converted to propane. I've had it for at least 20 years and it's still going strong. At one point I thought the digital display was failing and I bought one on the web...then the original one fixed itself, so I now have a backup (somewhere.) The only thing I would have done differently if I could is to buy one that still has a pilot light (is not electronic.) I can manually light the stove top burners in the event of a power outage, but the electronic thermostat that runs the oven will not work...the oven will not turn on at all without the electricity required to operate the gas supply valve. I don't even know if "old style" is still available.
I have a small wood stove in my shop that has "eyes" on which we can cook, but we have never used it. It was pried out of the ice from an old cabin that was flooded then frozen. Wood heating stoves in one greenhouse and the house, but they are not great for cooking. Acres of trees around to use for fuel if I should need to, but I hope I can get gasoline for my chainsaws. I am no longer fit enough to cut all that wood by hand.
I don't believe the old style is available new, but you might be able to find one on Facebook or Craigslist, or perhaps from a used appliance dealer. In the old days, I used to use the pilot light in my oven to raise bread.
Yeh, I used to use the old gas ovens to raise bread, too. I keep meaning to get a battery backup/inverter to have on hand, but I rarely bake these days. I can survive without the oven.
I too have a small wood burning camping stove and intend to use it for heat and steam when I finally finish my steam room attached to the shop. Instead of throwing water on hot rocks, I’ll provide a water drip onto the hot stove for steam. I could use a fry daddy for steam but that’s just too easy and uses electricity.
I was thinking of something like this, it's only $678.00. Whirlpool 30 in. 5-Burner Freestanding Gas Range in Black.
√ Gas √ Stove What else is there? But seriously...mine has a timer on it for starting up the oven. I may have mentioned it here before. I cannot imagine any scenario in which that might be useful. The only other specs I could even concoct would be how efficient it is, how steady it holds the temp, etc. But I gotta really stretch to come up with anything that might differentiate one model from the next...except for price. There's also a 4 burner Whirlpool on that website for the same price but a lower list price. Other than the 5th burner, the specs are the same. And I see it comes with the LP conversion kit.
I agree the one I have now has that timer, and self-cleaning too. But I've never used the timer, in 25 years. I did try the locking self-cleaner oven. I wanted the 5 burners to think it would be nice.
