I think Jeff Beck was best when he kept it simple. He depended too much on electronic effects to enhance his style, but that was the trend starting in the 70s in rock guitar. He had some interesting techniques that very few could copy in his later years, but I still like the simple variations he did in this video. Especially on Sleepwalk where he uses lots of sustain and vibrato.
I have the original here now, this was not the song. They were all experimenting with the new electronics and if you notice in this recording there was a minute or two that would become standard later in a lot of recordings by other well known artist. Eric Clapton and Cream and a few others. They were all using that Wow Wow effect-or.
While Beck used the right-hand thumb, index, and sometimes middle finger technique on rock electric guitar, the master of this technique for rock is Mark Knopfler. I like Mark because he plays more music and has less dependence on electronics.
Since I don't play guitar or any musical instrument although I like the music, I can't stand long strung-out guitar solos, like some of my favorite performers like to do. I understand those who do play appreciate it though.
Since I don't play, I have no real favorites maybe the piano from Mama or the guitar from Jake on guitar, both of whom are great musicians. I like all instruments like this horn performance which doesn't overdo it. Or the drum in this classic pop, Piano,
One of my favorite bands, they were screwed so bad by their promoter it was criminal. He was banking millions on their concerts and only tossed them 250 bucks a week. It was cut throat in the music business back in the 70s. Even Eric Burton of the Animals was robbed. I don't hear any music today that I really like and I just use Youtube to listen to my favorites. I started saving music 20 years ago and accumulated 40 gigabytes of compressed music. The disc are getting pretty old now and will probably be no good before I croak even tho I just open them up when I start up a new computer to put them into a folder. I like that new winamp player a lot and use it now. A long time ago I was using a nice creative labs player that came with my 5.1 audio cards but it was discontinued and I have never been able to find it again. This concert by Grand Funk is in full and if it don't make your feet move you have bad hearing.
They did it to many of them, I read two books about how vad they gor ripped off, 'Tommy James and the Shandel's'.James wrote the book Me,The Mob,and the Music. Also the book by Chuck Negron,'Three Dog Night; Three Dog Nightmare.
Beth do you remember this song, Randy Corner.. he owned the Western Swing on the far northern airline highway. This song on youtube has a different last name so someone made a mistake because he still uses the same name as he did 50 years ago. I just read a couple weeks ago that he was in very bad health today.
