Many years ago ,neighbor told me that mackerel tastes like salmon. NOOOOOO it do not . My girls then young asked me What tha heck is this ? Tuna is also not a replacement for salmon. For me at least.
Glad you commented on mackerel, I was going to ask about it. Tuna is not a replacement for sure, but it is ok for alternative. I prefer salmon but tuna works in a fix.
I like salmon, either hot or cold, and whether it is fresh/frozen, or out of a can. I love smoked salmon ! When I had my Little Chief smoker, I used to make my own smoked fish, and it was SO good. I like salmon gravy, and have used mackerel for that, but it is not as good as salmon. I think it would be okay in patties, but have not used it that way, and I do not care for cold mackerel sandwiches. Tuna, I normally do eat cold in a sandwich, but I also like it hot in a tuna casserole. I have not used any fish in a patty, but think that I would like it. An interesting thing about fish, is that we are told that it is a good food for Omega 3, because of the fish oil. However, the fish get the omega 3 from eating algae, so only the wild-caught fish actually have the omega 3 in the fish oil; farmed fish just get food pellets and not any algae to give them the omega 3. I also really like sardines and kipper snacks, and I only eat those cold, either plain or in a sandwich.
I have made canned salmon like tuna, even add cheese. it is very good. Tuna wen heated seems to have a strong fish odor that has always turned me off. However if all I had was tuna and some spices I might could make do.
When I make a tuna dish, I always put the tuna in a colander and rinse with hot water before adding it to the recipe. I can't stand "fishy" tasting stuff but I do like a creamy tuna casserole occasionally.
Tuna is fine. I like it and anything fixed with tuna. Just like pork chops are not the same as chicken and is different from pot roast. All good food!!!
