oh ..the first dentist didn't want to do it...wanted me to get partial or implants...i found another who had no problem doing it... i do hope you get good work done whatever you want and no pain
I told him about a tooth (upper back gum) that got very loose and, eventually, I was able to wiggle it and it came out. After doing the exam, he told me that some Periodontitis was setting in, and that in 10 to 15 years, all of my teeth would be falling out. I told him, again, that all I was interested in was the two teeth that I was there for.
Nancy--in my experience, the deep cleaning goes a bit up under the gum line and was performed by a periodontist instead of a dental assistant. They only did part of my mouth at a time if I remember correctly; it has been several years ago. I was beginning to have some gum receding and the deep clean helped resolve that issue.
Well, am going to see if I’m eligible for VA Dental or if the VA will help me pay for “outside the VA” dental. Wife and I were told that the cost around $1,500 for each tooth (Root Canal & Crown). That would be close to $3,000 for both of my teeth that need it. Extraction would be considerably cheaper, but both of those teeth would be gone! Even with the cost, we both still think a root canal and new crown would be the best. But, will check with the VA about dental anyway.
That is my story. The first dentist wanted to do a total restore for 15k. That didn't make sense with my gum disease and several teeth needed pulling anyway requiring partials. My first set of dentures with 2 implants worked so so glued in. The implants when bad and had to be replaced for $10K cash on the spittoon. Then add $6K for premium specialty dentures that are too bulky, make me gag and the top won't stay in place even glued. That dentist refused to make them work for me and sent me to the oral surgeon to do surgery on my cheeks to make them fit. The surgeon sent me back saying the dentures were too bulky and no way the top would ever work without implants and bone grafting to the tune of $30k. I should have just had them pulled and learned to gum it. I switched dentists and all they do once a year is check gum health and clean around two implants and charge $50. The specialty hygienist working for the oral surgeon charged $250 for this very same thing that took 10 minutes.
I was looking more for what members thought about either getting both extracted or having the root canal/new crowns put on. Not so much of members past dental experiences. Most of us have had "experiences", but when given the choice of two different surgeries, root canals/crowns vs. extraction, I got what I was looking for now. I sent a message to my VA doctor to see what, if any, help I can get from the VA.
Cody it depends a lot on how good your other teeth are. If most of your other teeth are pretty good, I wouldn't have one pulled. You are too young to start that, imo. Good luck with the VA.
Nancy, don't know about my age, as I'm 73, but do want to keep all of my teeth that I can. Half of my teeth, bottom/right side of mouth, have been gone for years. Dentist told me that I do most of my chewing on the left side of my mouth where I pretty much have a full set of teeth, even with the two bad ones.
Ok, just got word from my VA doctors nurse that I would have to be a "Service-Connected" Veteran or "Service-Connected Dental" to be eligible for VA Medical Dental. Of which I'm neither. And, as far as "Financial Assistance" goes, my wife makes way to high of a salary on her "at home/temp" job for us to qualify for any kind of "Financial Assistance". So, will take care of the cost ourselves, minus whatever our Aetna Dental Discount card will pay.
I don’t think people were being deliberately evasive to your question. I don’t like trying to give a recommendation on something I’ve never experienced. When I have actually experienced something personally, I can speak with confidence about how successful the results were, for me. I think that’s all that people were trying to relate. My $0.02
Well, the way I see it, and I could be wrong and that "wrong" has happened numerous times to me, if someone's experience is with the topic, then it's fine. But, basically, I'm not interested in any other dental stuff. I know what the dentist told me, concerning his exam, and I know what I told him. IOW, "I'm only here for two teeth, not my entire mouthful of teeth".
So as usual, you post something asking for input, and then just want to argue about it. Just do what you want, because that's exactly what you were going to do no matter what anyone recommended.
