Last time I used my meat tenderizing hammer in the kitchen my watch thought I'd taken "a hard fall." I muttered something about tenderizing my watch but thought better of it. Nanny state devices.
My husband bought one of these for my MIL. It has little suction cups on the bottom. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/wuUKvCzlznA Amazon has several models; I might have to buy myself one.
Same here with my apple watch got upset when I was trying to break a smallish branch/ twig for the fire last winter, it was only as thick as my finger ,…… so I was breaking it by holding it one hand and using my foot as a lever to snap the twig @Beth Gallagher
I'm still searching for a way to reset the sensitivity of my watch's Fall Detection. I had it "learn" when I first got it, and now it's not sensitive enough.
It seems to keep on learning, John. Mine hardly ever thinks I am falling now, but at first, quick movements , even just doing something in the kitchen, would trigger it. I think that once it detects something is a normal movement for you, it will not set off when you do that movement.
I thought that there was a way to tell it to "Remember This Action" as being Not-A-Fall on an action-by-action basis. And I think I may have told it I was OK too often. I've had stuff that I think it should have detected but did not, and I can find nothing about resetting (or increasing) the sensitivity. Maybe I'll post that question on the Apple Community.
It's a tough thing to find out about, Kate. One Apple article I just read in response to similar questions says there is no sensitivity adjustment. The inquirer said that she had a couple of falls that were not detected, yet the thing went off as she stood in the checkout line. I did find out where Falls are recorded...it recorded one last April. I guess as long as I'm conscious enough to hold the SOS button, I'm good.
I also need a shower mat. Just looked at them. They all got suction cups. ..."Suction cups?. I don't need no stinkin' suction cups!" And carpet? Yuk! I want thick rubber without suction cups so it will dry out. Just turn it over. I'm thinking about a welcome mat made from recycled rubber tires, like I have at the front door. Do you think these would hurt your bare feet? I'll try it out when it warms up.
