I was cleaning the porch while moving dog beds and it slammed back and sliced my leg open. About a 2 ince square of skin peeled back and bled all over me shoe. I went inside and mixed a quick glass of salt water. poured it over it then used shower head to clean out any debre. Hurt like heck. So I had to put the skin back over my open wound. It has been one hell of a month, be glad when its over. If it gets red or infected I'll go to doctor. I'll have a big bruise tonight from the hit. I poured more salt water over it then Jake helped me bandage it . he insisted on antibiotic ointment.
That sounds painful, Marie ! It is good that you got it cleaned and bandaged right away. Maybe put some of your aloe vera on it, too, and that will really help take away the pain and also help it heal better.
Thanks Yvonne, I forgot about the Aloe Vera, good advice. I had just bought a lot of grapes ,Strawberrys so had to clean and freeze them which made it bleed more of course, it is really hard to sit when so much isn't getting done. I did get the fruit put up though. Grapes are like little pop cycles when frozen. I always wash my fruit then rinse in vinegar in case bacteria, then final rinse so it can be time comsuming. I have a large bucket to soak leg in and it is lower leg so that's good.
Thank you Teresa I will try and keep it clean. At least Jake got his 2 teeth out so thats good,so far ok.
Teresa, I know that is true but things start adding up if you rest even for a while. But I'm taking your advice and taking it slow.
Thanks Beth and yes we got double whammied this time. But I'm so glad he got the teeth extracted, they can cause all kinds of problems. A bad tooth killed my favorite humorist, Lewis Grizzard. It infected his heart.
Thank you Mary ,thats what I'm doing so hope it heals when I walk it starts bleeding again, so then as you advised I add pressure.
A hammer tore a chunk loose from my thumb like that once when I wasn't watching it. All I had on hand was a plastic sandwich bag. Wrapped the plastic around it. You could keep an eye on it and make sure it stayed in place that way. Changed it out for new plastic occasionally. It also didn't stick to the plastic and pull loose like it would a Band-Aid. You can still see a little circle near the end of my thumb if you look carefully.
Nancy I may try that if this starts sticking or not working, thank you. Maybe plastic then gauze over that. I hear not to cover it after first day but I know I'll cover it at night or whenever I'm around the dogs.
I have done that with scotch tape when I had a cut finger and no way to bandage it, and the tape worked great. I usually left a bandage on until I could tell the skin was starting to heal back together, and definitely when outside working it needs the bandage.
It doesn't take long to start to heal back where it belongs, if it's ever going to. Keep it dry. Water makes the skin swell up and come loose. Sorry you had the scrape, Marie.
