Daily Walking

    I have been drinking Boost for months now, but glucose didn't go up. I think I sat around too much after my walk and ate a piece of bread then tomato soup with 3 saltines. I knew better.
    I now buy the diabetic Boost and eat lots of nuts. It still has sugar in it but not as much.

    I'll drink some red wine later today and see if that helps. Amazing how much it brings down glucose. I know grape seeds are supposed to also. but not grape seeds.

    I'm still walking everyday but last couple days been busy cleaning and so walk was shorter.
    Today I did the whole walk and tired sooner, so it took awhile to get it done. I had to stop twice taking a bendover touch knnes break. It ws also cold so that may have slowed and tired me. Anyway I'll do it while I can. Otherwise, I don't think my body will last if I don't.

    Still walking, adding distance. Took the dogs yesterday they were really rambunctious, so it turned out to be a workout in more ways than one.

    I'm not managing it every day because, unless I can get up early in the morning, I'm not inclined to spend time walking just for the sake of exercise. But if I can get up earlier than usual, I can feel like I have the time for it, and that's been about four days out of the week this spring even in sleet and snow, as today.

    Spring is coming and I thought I would try walking the hills while the pavement was dry. Hubby mainly walks to the mailbox daily (up an incline) so I asked him if we could try a walk together. Got to the mailbox and he said he would try further tomorrow. That basically means no. I worry about him.
    When I was 62, I assessed what it would take to take care of him if he hit the skids. But today, I am not quite up to the challenge. Will work on it.

    At one time a major mall in our town had walking groups and they were well attended but so many malls have closed .... so it's on us too MOVE. My daughter knows that owning a dog and walking her keeps my daughter going and she's got a problem foot which slows her down...

    It just hit me I've been gone from difficult weather conditons for walking for over 50 yrs, in CA where I am, walking outdoors is almost 365..one here has to be committed and hardy for walking.

    I think that weather conditions almost anywhere can affect quality of weather for walking outside. Here in Alabama, it is cold and wet all winter long, although seldom any snow or ice, and in the summer, it is really humid and hot. Spring and fall are better for being outside, but both re changeable seasons, so you have nice days one day, and miserable ones the next.

    Because of my balance, and bad knees, I trip over anything and can’t lift my foot enough to walk properly anymore; so I do most of y walking back and forth through the house, occasionally venturing outside to walk, or when we are inside of a building, like shopping or going to the fitness canter.
    Otherwise, I try to walk at least a little each hour, and even that depends on how well I am breathing each day.

    ..even slacking on the gym work as I can't get to the pulley machines, it's getting crowded down there. I have stretchbands and things I can do at home. Hope they help as I was just diagnosed with osteoporosis. Not to bad but if anyone understands the numbers, darned if I could understand what my Doc with MS was saying to me on a video chat :( I'll show anyone my numbers that wants to let me know what they think.

    Meanwhile, I am keeping up with my walks especially with the beautiful weather we are having. Here's a few photos I grabbed while down at our beach:

    Beautiful photos, @Denise Evans ! How I envy you being able to live so close to the ocean ! When I lived in western Washington , my favorite thing was to drive out to Ocean Shores and spend the day at the ocean. Sometimes, I was able to go to Astoria, Oregon, and stay at the campground near Long Beach, Washington.

    Walking is a good choice, as long as you can do it, and a great way to actually see things as you walk. I used to walk several miles every day, mostly at night with my dog; but enjoyed walking anytime.
    Now, I can’t walk very far, and trip over every little thing, so going out for a walk is not possible anymore. And I dislike the treadmill intensely.
    Swimming seems to be the best thing for me, and I love swimming as much as walking.

    We do a lot of walking when shopping. Walking and good eating is what raised up my eGRF (kidney function number) from 57 to 69.
    For the 10 1/2 years we lived in Jacksonville, Florida's "Southside", we only went down to Jacksonville Beach four times. Also took a week of vacation and drove down to Key West. Turned out that we just aren't the "beach" type couple.

    @Denise Evans Great photos! Walking is good for everybody and with beaches like that, that would be my choice. Are these photos Northern California? I try to walk at least 1 mile a day and up to 5 if I am feeling frisky.

    You might look into Tai Chi. It helps build bone density. One thing I do while walking is gently chopping using one hand on the opposite arm. If you have a husband or masseuse, have him do gentle chopping up and down your spine. Aging martial arts folks do this to keep up bone density.

    Swimming is wonderful and I don't get to do that at all, well, not for several years. But walking around here is good for me, and yes, I love enjoying the scenery. I'll attach a couple photos I got today, have to eat some lunch first ;) Good to see you, glad I dropped in this a.m. ;)

    Thanks Faye, yes, far Northern CA, I'm just outside Crescent City, CA and drive to the Pebble Beach Drive as I can easily walk the whole thing in 2 hours. But if I tried walking the extra 1 and 1/2 mile to my place I'd be too worn out ;)

    Today was warm down there, little breeze, about perfect but a bit warm for what I wore for pants, could have worn shorts easy. No mate here so I just do what I can at my gym, but my fave is walking for sure ;) I have stretch-bands and a weight bench here at my apt. but haven't gotten into that yet, but I shall ;)

    I love that area but haven't been for years due to travel related restrictions. If it was possible, I would live on the southern Oregon beach somewhere around Brookings up to Gold Beach.

    It is lovely, pretty isolated from bigger cities with better healthcare, but I'm not so sure it isn't the same story in cities. More doctors, but more people. More things to do though. I'll probably live out my days here though, who knows ;)
