12 Benefits of Petroleum Jelly, and forgotten by many. Companies continually offer new and better products (MORE $$$$) and Petroleum Jelly is still very economical and .forgotten. https://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-...eum-jelly-uses Happy Healing
I grew up in the area where Petroleum Jelly was discovered. The oil well workers noticed that something in the oil helped their skin from chafing and blistering. I think it was Dr. Pond (from Pond's Cold Cream fame) that actually purified it and marketed it.
Since I got this awakening on P.J. I've put a thin layer on my eye lids as they are drying...and I do use dry eye drops for the inside of eyes but the lids need some lubrication.
I probably should buy a fresh container of Vaseline. The jar I have is decorated with baby decor (little ducks, etc.) and the last baby that I kept was about 15 years ago.
Primal Survivor disagrees... "Conclusion. Even though Vaseline carries an expiry date of approximately three years, it can last a lifetime if stored correctly. Made up of hydrocarbons, Vaseline contains no nutrients or moisture that would allow bacteria to flourish." They only have to worry about the Biden administration's war on fossil fuels.
Yeh, but there were other sites that disagreed...as though there were some medicinal properties. Survival Sullivan says "Technically, yes, Vaseline does expire, having a best by date of about 3 years, but in reality, it just degrades and loses potency. You can store and use it for up to 10 years."
"Sure, the hydrocarbons within petroleum jelly will certainly degrade over time, but this isn’t going to happen overnight. So long as you keep your jar of vaseline at or below room temperature and out of direct sunlight, it can last for quite a long time (5-10 years) without really losing its effectiveness." edit to add: I'm not saying I agree with this. It's all part of the confusion I encountered when searching on the subject a few years ago when I had a skin cancer taken off of my nose and had to keep the wound covered with Vaseline. All I had around was a jar I must have bought Carter was in office. I ended up throwing it out and buying a fresh container.
