I never had a pedicure until I was 65 and then on my pcp’s recommendation. Now I get them every other month. I am using my cell phone to bring you this exciting adventure live. My toes are sore so it isn’t as pleasant as expected. Pre Covid they served up to two glasses of wine. That helped in the event of sore toes. Due to Covid no more wine and prices increased and just took another hike. They are on the hot rocks now. I didn’t get my usual gal with strong hands so the massage is a bit sissy. “What color you want nails?” “No color.” “Husband no like color?” “No husband?” “Boyfriend no like color?” “No boyfriend?” “No hanky panky?” “Hahaha no I guess not.” “You all done then.
I bought hubby a rotary tool like they use to file dog toenails cuz his are like piano keys. My nails have always been somewhat flexible so I can just rip them off. I use my bath brush on them in the shower. Pretty sure applying nail polish is out of the question.
I do my own mani/pedi's. I can still put my foot up on the bathroom counter so I guess I'll do my own until I can't do that any longer. I watch a youtube channel occasionally called The Meticulous Manicurist and she works on some really scary looking feet. Not sure what she charges but I don't think it's enough after seeing what she deals with.
The reason I can't do my own complete pedicures is I can't use those tiny clippers backhanded to work around the side of my nails to prevent ingrown nails. I can clip my nails but can't trim the cuticles without drawing blood. Also bending down makes my head dizzy and sets off nerve problems. I don't have the patience to do my own leg massages and hot rock treatment. If they raise their price again, I may learn to do it or just let it all go and let my nails look like Rusty's hooves ( @Nancy Hart ) did a few years back.
Pedicures I need three yearly, just my thing is all, and I love them. Coral colored nail polish and always a foot massage, off I then go with a smile.
I still do my own mani/pedi ‘s too, but I couldn’t get my foot on my bathroom vanity if I wanted too without hurting some major body part! When we remodeled our bathroom, we put in an adult vanity. It is countertop height. I would have to be Gumby to be able hoist my hoof up there.
When we built this house in 1994, the master bath was designed with one normal countertop and one that they called "comfort height." Since I'm 5'2", I have to use the "uncomfort height".
I must be an evil person because every so often I think we should do a youtube on old people and their gymnastics. People would be amazed at how I clip my toenails not to mention put on my socks! Carrying things up and downstairs. Garden. Gather eggs in the barn walls...
When I was still driving a podiatrist would do my toes and bill medicare and work on them I have arthritic feet/toes....now no driving, I work on my own, and use scissors too...worked out a position to get to my toes...
I'll have to wait until I can't do anything myself before I go to either. Once I do my foot soak the toe nails are soft and I can clip them easily.
