I took an extended halt of taking any medications for well over a year and my local family healthcare clinic changed location to just 2 blocks from where I live. So I decided to go there once again to pick up where I left off because no matter how bad the weather is and a lot less wear and tear on my old truck it would be a winning ticket for me to use the clinic again.

So I started again about two weeks ago and got my meds restarted again and this morning kept an early appointment to see if my blood pressure med needed any adjustment. Only thing that changed was I picked up 9 pounds. To me that isn't such a big deal. I will take a drive to the nearest town where the Parrish hospital is and have a blood scan because they are concerned that I have swelling in my ankles and my upper midsection.

No surprise with any of that but he wants to have me see another heart doctor which is a good idea of course and I will have to go to Baton Rouge one time and after that I can see the doctor in the same little town I will be visiting tomorrow at his local office. I had an EKG and there were two things that were present but not really significant to worry about, he said I might have had a minor heart attack at some point. I find that hard to believe but then I'm not the doctor or specialist. My last doctor picked up on that same issue with the EKG but even he didn't want to make any negative comment about it so I assume it is nothing.

I hate having to get a ride on that senior van again, it was built to haul apples and oranges and if anyone ever takes a ride on one they would know what I am talking about. The nearest comparison would be riding in the back of an ARMY Deuce n a Half, or a two and a half ton heavy truck.

So I just got my next appointment to see that Heart doctor next week in Baton Rouge La, I have to now call and arrange for my senior van ride. I hate all the disruption in my do nothing schedule and happy to know it only takes place once in a while. I don't like all this calling and scheduling and having to base everything on the ride, it if isn't available for the time and date I have to do that call back and get something different, which by that time I am ready to just say NO. I am lazy and old and made myself a promise I am not going to make my final time on this earth going back and fourth to doctors for no reason. I'll go along with this seeing this new heart doctor but I don't plan on making monthly trips, once a year is good enough. :D

Good for you, Thomas. I have heard of people having "silent" heart attacks, which is a little scary. I hope the cardiologist find out what's going on. How far are you from BR? We used to live in Central, which was not incorporated back in the early 90's. I also lived in Spanish Town which I really enjoyed.

I live halfway from Baton Rouge to Opelousas. I was sitting here trying to remember the first time I had someone say to me I had a sign of having a heart attack but it was a very long time ago so I never get any kind of reaction to results all these years. Like most things it is probably a defect of some kind that appears in the EKGs but not xrays or any other diagnosis. He explained to me this morning it was usually a type of blockage that stopped blood flow in one tiny section of the heart., which I suppose could be a defect at birth but not bad enough to cause any damage. I guess it would be called an anomaly ? I am going tomorrow to have a special blood scan to better understand, which I guess will be more imaging or ultra sounding. Got an appointment with a new heart doctor for next week and he has a local office here about 9 miles from me which after the first visit to his place in Baton Rouge I will be able to have appointments at his private office nearer me. They got all giddy when I told them I had been eating that Bunny Bread and picked up that 9 pounds, of course two loaves of Bunny Bread don't account for 9 pounds. I have to say that Bunny Bread is really good after eating that too old stale bread they were leaving on the shelves.

Good luck with your new medical team! Stay with it, hopefully you'll have more confidence in enjoying yourself after getting things checked out and explained in more detail.

Sheesh, are you a swamp rat?? :D:D (I have crossed the Atchafalaya swamp countless times.)

I have a leaky heart valve but my cardiologist said it was fairly normal for someone "my age."

No one has mentioned a valve problem and I have had as many as 3 EKGs in one year when I was trying to get this hernia repaired it just kept repeating with the wait between sources so often. Nothing was ever in question until I had the last stress test and ultra sounding before my hernia surgery. I ask the guy what was it that he thought I needed another batch of test and he got real uppity about a question. That's the day he lost a customer, I don't play that stuff and have people talk down to me for no reason. I don't work for that guy and had always been nice to him. I can find a bunch of heart doctors today if I needed one and I am still not confident that I do need one. I had a great hernia surgeon and he was from Lafayette.

I told my primary this morning I would go have the blood scan tomorrow and also go see this new heart doctor just to be sure there isn't anything wrong. The only time I had something strange happen was when I lost vision in one eye for just a minute when I was feeling bad and very tired from working.

I told my VA doctor about it and they looked at my eye and saw no signs of stroke and years later I had another loss of vision just for a moment no longer than it took to walk to the bathroom and wash my face and eyes with cold water. With this nerve damage in my neck you never know what you will have in the upper extremities. It effects the shoulders and arms and hands and could possibly even cause a problem with your sight for just a short moment.

My left hand was going to sleep when I would be sitting here at my desk with my arm slightly elevated to the height of the desktop and it was the neck causing that so two steroid shots stopped that. It never returned but over all the pain came back after a year. The doctor told me that with DDD in the neck it will constantly be changing behavior due to the continuous grinding down of the vertebrae. The pain could go away and it could come back at any time, it never remains constant. I can say all the popping and grinding has stopped this past year.

Good luck with this process, Thomas. I'm glad you have doctors within reasonable reach of you, to the extent you feel like seeing them. I've gone through a little of this when they thought I had a small stroke about 3 years ago. I had slight symptoms, but there's no evidence of any causal issue. The only thing my cardiologist did that the hospital did not do was to test for a hole in the back of my heart (and there's not one.)

I guess we should be grateful we've been reasonably functional after the event(s). Doctors don't know everything.

I feel the same, I still pay attention to the results of the blood work and less to what someone said years ago. I have a little swelling which is common for most people over 50. I haven't taken any water pills for over a year and my swelling actually got better and I haven't felt any worst than I was years ago. Only the knees and neck and occasional back pain. I will start eating more bananas and hope I catch them marked down because they're brown spotted. I love bananas and once loved raisins until they became an exotic food :D

Do you have disc issues? I had one replaced (c4/C5) when it bulged against my spinal cord and I could not live my arm. It was scary stuff. That was 25 years ago. As you know, when a disc gets replaced, it distributes the pressure on adjoining discs, which are often in the same shape the failed one was.

I had an appointment for tomorrow morning to see a new heart doctor in Baton Rouge and the senior van called and told me they would not be able to have a ride for me tomorrow. I let the clinic know and they will try and get a new appointment. I went past Friday and had another blood work done at the local hospital for my Parrish, and already had one the week prior when I first started going back to the family clinic. Both samples were negative for anything but laziness.

This will be only the 2nd time the van has let me down but during that virus the people going to the doctor was much less and today it is seeing larger numbers of people using the van I suppose. At least I know my liver won't explode any time soon. Now I can take my long nap today and tomorrow. I napped 4 and a half hours yesterday while the storm moved thru. It rained like the 40 day flood but moved thru very fast and I have no doubts that rain was making me sleep so well. Today it will be here again :D
