I happen to be a bit of a history buff and I especial enjoy films about WW2. I own: War and Remembrance Band of Brothers as well as many other shorter films: Patton, Ike: The War Years, Sink the Bismarck, In Harms Way, The Battle of the River Plate, Saving Private Ryan, The Battle of Britain, Dunkirk, The Longest Day, The Battle of the Bulge, Murphy's War, 30 Seconds Over Tokyo, Fat Man and Little Boy, MacArthur, Tora Tora Tora, Midway, The Imitation Game, well you get the idea. I have many more. I especially would like to find another very long series film, but any really good ones would help me pass the time. Do you know of any ? Thank you
Not a film, but have you watched the World War Two Channel on YouTube? Hours and hours of information and a 24-hour stream on D-Day set for June 6.
I don’t know about long series but I found the movie “When Trumpets Fade” to be very memorable. It deals with the little known Battle of the Hürtgen Forest during WW2. If it had not been overshadowed by other events happening around the same time, it would probably be very well known. “It was the longest battle on German ground during World War II and is the longest single battle the U.S. Army has ever fought.” “The Hürtgen Forest cost the U.S. First Army at least 33,000 killed and wounded, including both combat and non-combat losses, with upper estimates at 55,000; German casualties were 28,000.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Hürtgen_Forest
Victory at Sea on 4 DVDs. It was a TV series in 1952 and 1953. It's in our local library. Summary: The most famous historical war series ever made. A sweeping record of the naval battles of World WW2. Contents: Design for war ; The Pacific boils over ; Sealing the breach ; Midway is east ; Mediterranean mosaic ; Guadalcanal ; Rings around Rabaul -- Mare Nostrum ; Sea and sand ; Beneath the southern cross ; Magnetic North -- The conquest of Micronesia ; Melanesian nightmare -- Roman renaissance ; D-day ; Killers and the killed ; The turkey shoot ; Two if by sea ; Battle for Leyte Gulf ; Return of the allies -- Full fathom five ; The fate of Europe ; Target Suribachi ; The road to Mandalay ; Suicide for glory ; Design for peace.
By sifting through the series, I found SOME did have closed captioning. I hope that soon, someone will digitally remaster this great series. It would be a shame to lose it due to age. Thanks for reminding me, Ed.
