What would cause a powered sub-woofer to hum/buzz ... on it's own ? Even when the stereo is not turned on . It is about 10 years old, and was/is part of a fairly good quality system. Denon stereo. Orbit 10 speaker surround-sound setup. It has an indpendent on/off switch , and when that is switched to off , then the noise goes away. But the system sounds so much better when it is in the 'loop' . Am I looking at needing a new one ?
My subwoofer has an auto-on function. It has its own amp built in and is normally in a “standby” mode; it switches on when it detects an audio signal. If yours has a similar function, it might be stuck on and you only hear it hum when everything else is off. Has anything changed in your audio connections, the power connection you’re using, etc.? If you want to trouble shoot it, you could have a look at this forum’s subwoofer subforum. https://www.avsforum.com/forums/subwoofers-bass-and-transducers.113/ edit: I did a search and copied the link, maybe you’ll be able to see the results without joining, I don’t know, but you can try it. https://www.avsforum.com/search/4790966/?q=Hum&t=post&c[child_nodes]=1&c[nodes][0]=113&c[nodes][1]=155&o=relevance edit2: one more https://hometheateracademy.com/subwoofer-hum/
Thank You ..... I am able to access all the links. There is allot of reading to do in each. So I need to just get at the diagnosis . Seems so strange that this would start after 10 years ?
Well, not sure about the 'exact' component , but it seems it has crapped out. Been doing some shopping around ..... damn those things have gone way up in $$ Due to my limited mobility, it's just difficult & painful. I don't care to go out shopping, etc. I talked to a local audio center, they are going to bring out one or two that they believe would work best in my system.
