Have you ever had a black eye, and how did it happen? Have you ever given anyone a black eye, and why?
I have a picture somewhere on my computer. It was a workplace accident, though, and not a fight. No, I have never given anyone a black eye.
Like medals on a soldier’s chest, black eyes serve as badges of honor, clumsiness and stupidity to the wearer, of which, I have accumulated one or more of each. All three types of medals look practically alike but the ball that wasn’t caught, the scaffold that was set at eye height awaiting an overzealous worker to slam into or an unblocked fist have tremendous differences but one must attain said medals in order to know what those differences are. There is one type of black eye that cannot serve as a medal for anything at all and that is the one that has appeared and has no explanation for having it. No fights, no fun activity, no workplace accident and no wife. It just….showed up.
I woke up with a whopper on morning. Best we can figure is that I must have rubbed my eye really hard during sleep.
Just before I started driving to school in May 1968, I gave the bus driver's grandson a black eye. For a long time, while riding the bus, he would flip my ear with his fingers. Finally, one morning I got fed up with it, turned around an punched him. His grandfather looked into the rearview mirror and said "it's about time he got you (referring to his grandson". The next day, I started driving to school.
Interesting. I was in several and I typically had no memory of what happened because I would just lose it and go into autopilot mode. I really didn’t like that happening and that was one of the reasons I finally got into martial arts, to get some better control of myself.
Yes, I have had one. It came from a fall over a pile of throw rugs that I put where they shouldn't have been. I hit the floor face first because my arms were full of clean towels, can't drop the clean towels. It wasn't just my eye. It was the whole side of my face and it took forever to go away. No, I have never given anyone a black eye.
Not a black eye, but a blow to the eye that caused the blood vessels to break in the white part. It looked much worse than it was. Don't remember ever hitting anyone, even as a kid. I've kicked several inanimate objects (on purpose).
Too many to count or remember how I got them. I was a wild child til about 20 yrs old, had many and gave a couple.
Yes, in my lifetime have had two black eyes. First one from a fall, tripped, hit my face on the edge of a wooden stereo. Second one hit the edge of a kitchen cupboard on the rise up from straightening the cupboard below it. No, have never gave anyone a black eye.
