The Government Treasury doesn’t hand out notices via YouTube.

You would have been personally notified by the Government by now if there was going to be a delay.

    Richard……settle down.

You, as a retired man out of the food service industry knows the very ominous feeling of being in the weeds.
Sometimes a slam is a slam and there’s nothing we could do about it except to ride the wave and make things happen the best we could.
Other times, we did it to ourselves. We got in the weeds so far we couldn’t see the trees but at the end of the night, we cleaned up and got ready for another day.

Simply put, you’re stressing out and putting yourself mentally in the weeds and if you do not stand back, take a deep breath and look at the real facts in front of you instead of the imagined problems, you’re going to stay in the weeds and have that much more anxiety piled up.

We food service people are tougher than that. Take it easy. It’s going to be just fine.

I still think it will be OK but I do recognize that not everyone currently running our government is fully sane.

Well Bobby, you certainly are correct. I am over-whelmed and too stressed out. By my very nature I have always been someone who thinks in terms of "what if". In other words, if such and such happens, then i'm going to do this or that. Very often, in the past, that kind way of thinking has saved me. This time, however, perhaps because of my age and poor health, all of the talk about the nation about to go into default and no SS checks going out in June has me stumped. Due to a series of misfortunes i have ended up in bad shape. If the June SS payment does not arrive in June, there is no way that my Mexican landlady will allow me to delay next months rent.

It is a precarious situation to have one's livelihood solely dependent on an insane government that doesn't give a damn about you, and when I say you, I mean many of us who are at least in large part dependent upon Social Security checks, Medicare, and so on. I have an income outside of my Social Security but it would be pretty tough to survive on it alone. That said, I very much doubt that the SS money won't be here. Our money isn't worth anything but it will continue to have value as long as everyone isn't in on the game.

It would indeed be a comfort if i had some outside income, BUT I don't. I am 100% dependent upon a timely , monthly SS payment. i HAD an RV, but even that is gone. No June SS payment and i'll literally be on the street.
Until recently I had a few friends here in mexico, but during the last year all of them have passed away. Which leaves me without any emotional support.

I went to twitter news to see what I could find there. When I searched for no SS payments, all that came up were liberal publications, blaming the republicans and saying the checks might not come out.
However….even the liberal news……said that the default could not happen until sometime in June, so at the worst, the SS check would not be paid in July …….. but definitely paid in June.
If you do not already have a Twitter account (they are free), you might want to get one and follow some of the conservative news sources on there, and not just listen to the fear-mongering liberal youtube videos.

Just as aside, @Richard Whiting , almost all youtube videos are monetized (you will see and ad for something), which means that people are making these videos to make money by getting people to watch the video.
The better the click-bait title, and the more dramatic, the more people watch the video, and the more money the video-maker earns for it.
As an example, one person who lives in Cambodia and has a pet monkey that he makes videos about (Monkey Yoyo Jr.) is now a millionaire in his country just from people watching his monkey videos over the last few years.
So, people making the SS videos are mostly doing to make money, and do not care if it is true or not, as long as it is dramatic.

Also, the money for social security does not even come out of the budget that they say is going to fail if it is not expanded. It has its own separate budget and has been that way for a long time now.

Worrying about it for the next 11 days or so isn’t going to assure payment.

Sit down with pen and paper and make a rough draft of what your possibilities are should things go south.
Might include: A list of churches on the American side that give assistance to seniors.
What are the available food banks close by
List of rescue missions within a radius of x miles.

I have no doubt in my military mind that you will not have to use anything within the draft but just for ease of mind, everyone should have an idea of what they would do should a short fall become a reality.

Oh my God. Might this thing drag on clear into July and beyond ?

There is much that i do not understand about the SSA. For example, and i might very well be wrong, but i thought that SSA funds had been bundled into the general fund. So, if the gov't runs out of money, so does SSA ?

Consider the national debt. Our government has been out of money for a long time.

Well, yes and no. While it's certainly true that we owe some 32 Trillion , it's also true that there is a debt limit imposed by Congress. When that debt limit is reached in any given year, no more money can be spent until Congress votes to increase the limit. At least that is my understanding..

Please don't get me wrong. I certainly am no ones idea of an expert. BUT, I think it works like this. If I go to the bank and get a loan, and then I spend all of that money. I am BROKE. Now, I'll stay broke unless I can borrow more money from the bank. Same as with a gov't ?

So, if we have spend all of the money for this past year, we are broke and that must mean there is no more money in SSA.

@Richard Whiting - my mom was like you... she would worry because she had nothing to worry about. Healthy as a horse and dropped dead from major stroke. If you don't get your poop together , trust me you are not going to be around to see what happens.
We all are trying to tell you, this is nothing new government wise here.

    AMEN, @Hedi Mitchell !
You are exactly right about this, and no one else on the whole forum thinks we are not going to get our SS check next month, which ought to be reassuring to Richard.
Nothing that any of us can do is going to change whatever happens , in any case. All we can do is look at our survival options if the economy did crash and there was no money for any of us.

All that worrying about it does is cause stress, which means our body releases cortisol and adrenalin, and that will cause inflammation/pain, fatigue, sleeping problems, gut issues, and many other things, both mental and physical.
It is time to stop worrying.
It does no good and even makes life worse right now.

I’m not a drinking man (I had my day) and rarely propose such a thing but I think it’s time for you to find some cactus drippin’s and chill out.

Note: Written entirely over concern and not with malice nor sarcasm.

Yep, your'e correct about me worrying. If, 20 years ago, i had worried more, I'd not be in the position I am in now. Back then I felt healthy as a young kid. I liquidated all my assets and began an around the world tour, which took me to 13 countries , lasting 7 years, and I went clear around the earth. But, now that I'm 77 yrs old and my health has failed, I worry a great deal.

All of my life I always felt a need to know "what was on the other side of the mountain". Believe it or not, as a 5 yr old, every day, I'd leave the apt and wander around the city of Ithaca N.Y. When other kids were in high school, I was out on the road hitch-hiking across America. Later, at age 57, I full filled a life long dream of circling the world and seeing many of the ancient monuments. Every thing from the Yucatan to Hong Kong, Thailand, and 5 weeks touring ancient Egypt. Yep, a lot of fun, BUT if I had it to do all over, I'd stay put and look to the future. But I was too impulsive back then.
