You're absolutely right. As long as they go along with whatever the current government/big pharma program is, they're in the clear as far as a malpractice suit goes, even if the patient is harmed by it, while any independent thinking on their part puts them out on a limb. Apart from that, when a doctor is employed by a clinic or hospital that is federally funded, they are limited in what they can do, even if they were inclined to think independently. This is why so many doctors are content to simply check off the forms on their government app rather than listening or otherwise paying attention to what is actually going on with their patients.

I am reminded of the 9-1-1 operator apps in which a 9-1-1 dispatcher asks a series of questions and, based on the answers, moves to another field of the app, which tells them what to do or what else to ask. Success as a 9-1-1 operator has more to do with familiarity with the app than with what the public believes the job demands.

When it comes to advice from doctors, it's mostly a matter of what are we pushing today, which could be a government agenda or lobbying from one industry or another Even as it pertains to diet and nutrition, the advice is heavily influenced, if not dictated, by food industry lobbies. The larger pharmacology companies dictate medication choices. The whole campaign a couple of decades back about how everyone deserves to be pain-free came from the push to sell Oxycontin, and when the lawsuits later came, the states reaped the rewards.

I've been eating jelly beans. I did not realize that a current lab was gonna look a my blood glucose level. In fact, I asked them to postpone any glucose lab because I did not fast, and they told me no such test was ordered.

Same range as above (74-99mg.) I was at 128mg. oops.

I talked for years about using A1c as a screen for diabetes and was told how stupid I was by the medical establishment. Now it an accepted practice. It actually measures not just the glucose over 90 days, but is a guide to the damage done by elevated glucose--the glycation of body proteins. Even if your glucose it high, if your A1c is normal, it is less significant. That is, in part, why the new "diabetes drugs" boast of lowering A1c, not lowering glucose. Supplements such as Alpha Lipoic Acid are reported to help prevent the glycation of proteins.

My concern has been that a period of irresponsible sweets consumption within that 90 day period preceding the test might jigger the A1C test. That's why I always assumed that a 24 hour glucose fast test would be better at seeing how your system metabolizes sugars.

The fasting glucose is affected by the type of carbs consumed the day prior. If you eat a lot of candy the previous day, your blood sugar will go crazy but if you have a decent insulin production, it will be down approaching "normal" by a fasting sugar the following day. If you eat two or three laves of good bread the previous day however, you may still be absorbing sugar despite the fasting period. If I remember, cortisol and prolactin are insulin antagonists, so if you are pregnant/breastfeeding or under a great deal of stress, your sugar will react differently than if you are not. Everything endocrine is complicated.:) Prolonged fasting or people on true Keto diet programs can deplete the glycogen stored in the liver also, so the body cannot raise the blood sugar level except by the energy dependent process of protein metabolism. That can affect the sugar level as well.

Fascinating. We are so complex, yet there's a reason for all of it.
