I take them all, and Many are Magnesium Deficient. Look at that one long and hard. https://www.webmd.com/healthy-aging/ss/slideshow-aging-vitamins-older-people?ecd=wnl_spr_053123&ctr=wnl-spr-053123_lead_cta&mb=DiSPQoHXxvvYZAz6w@3phuHnVev1imbCRHtWKVO7Ys4= I believe my 2 friends who are in their 70's were not taking ENOUGH magnesium and I feel this what put them into afib and now they take heart drugs and one is returning from an ablation treatment in TX with a specialist she found out about... My gut tells me my heart is a-ok, it's old like the rest of the parts. I keep it alive much better with what I take for cardio.
I still need to decide what blood tests to get so I can get back on my supplements. I thought it was going to be a matter of picking a canned collection of tests, but it's turning out to be more complex than that.
Well can't that be determined by your last labs and the values that you had then. Doesn't your doc know your history. Reading one's own labs, tells us just about everything.
I was looking at getting vitamin & mineral tests that aren't part of the normal panels. I wanted a look at my clean system before I built my supplements back up. Maybe the quandary I'm in tells me that I don't really need to have anything checked. Maybe I'll do things that might cause issues if one over-supplements and start from there. Most of the test are built around the B vitamins, and I don't need those tested. I'll just do the a la carte things...whatever they may be.
John, I hear some docs saying one can do a vitamin some kind of test but as far as I'm concerned, as we age supplementing is important and overdosing is something I don't do. I take extra Vit C every day but it also helps with my gut and bm's and as I said there are books written on the magnesium deficiency. And on the Vit D (hormone) get the levels tested, I did tons of Sun all my early and mid life, then I came in from the Sun and found how low my D was and so I worked on that. I believe so many would be alive today their D levels were pretty optimal. Talking about the covid deal which our leaders Never mentioned Vit D, those scoundrals...... Most on this forum anyway, have good diets.
This is very interesting, as lack of magnesium I believe was the major factor for my friend's getting afib issues, and Mag is one of the 4 major additions for cardio health as offered by Dr. Stephen Sinatra for years. I've been taking for decades and never an issue and all good results. You are certain it was the mag??? I'm reading further, what can I say about your issue....perhaps some have this issue. Maybe if one has too high levels, it can cause palps. https://elmandrye.com/blogs/news/can-magnesium-supplements-cause-heart-palpitations Just reading my 2022 lab results on mag and the range is 1.5 to 2.6, my reading was 1.9 and that is a good level as I understand labs. P.S. All I've ever heard is that mag is a relaxing mineral. Many take it for their sleep, I have for years.
Absolutely. A friend suggested that it was good for you. I took it for a couple of weeks and my heart went bonkers. I suspected that it was from the magnesium and stopped taking it. In a few days my heartbeat returned to normal.
Shirley, My guess is that you didn't take a high dose of mag. I've been taking higher dose all the time and looking at the list above and I said I take them all, this is not true, I do NOT take calcium supplements as when I had 2 mammograms over 30 yrs ago my results showed calcium calcifications.....that is when I started heavily to research magnesium and I liked what I read for bone health and no more calcium for me but a regiment of mag. Never got another mamm again and I know my breasts are healthy. Grape Seed Extract is also reported that "may prevent cancer" so this is my faith.
There are several variations of magnesium which assist in different ways. Magnesium, calcium, sodium and potasium are the four electrolytes we need. We need vitamin d3 and k2-7 to make sure to get them to the right place and potassium we need in the greatest amount. There is a lot of research out there. Sadly even most dieticians haven't a clue. One needs to listen to one's own body too.
One of the major issues of low magnesium is when a person double over with leg and or foot cramps. This is a majro one, otherwise one needs to read up on the importance of minerals. Here are the various forms of Magnesium: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/magnesium-types
