I mostly use a Mac, and I use a trackpad rather than a mouse. My trackpad is wireless, except that I have to plug it in every couple of weeks to charge it. My older one was wired, so I just left that one plugged in. They both worked fine.
Brought back a funny memory. When my old wired mouse quit working, I went to "Office Depot" to get a new one. There were no wired mouses available; only wireless ones. I asked a (younger generation) employee where I could find a "regular" wired mouse. He laughed & said "Maybe an antique store." I said, "Don't I need a special computer for a wireless mouse to work?" He said, "No." So, I bought the wireless one & it works fine. The batteries last a few years.
Most of what I've read says that--as you guessed--interrupted signal is the most likely suspect. Are you using the monitor on your laptop (meaning that the mouse & laptop are close to each other), or are you using an external monitor (meaning that the mouse and the computer might not have a clean line-of-sight between them)? My logitech wireless keyboard/touchpad combo came with a Range Extender for the dongle. I've always had it installed...there's no reason not to. The other obvious issue is low batteries. One article said that there may be a conflict with the computer's built-in Touchpad, if your laptop has one. You can go into the Settings and Disable it to test. Of course, if the wireless mouse dies and you've turned off the Touchpad, you have no pointer device until you replace the mouse. The last issue could be a bad/outdated driver. I've started having issues with the touchpad on my wireless keyboard, and everything I've read says that the generic system driver on my computer is bad. The solution is to delete it and then restart the computer. The computer "should" see that the driver is missing and then reinstall a new one. It's the "should" part that's made me just live with it. If the computer does not replace the deleted driver upon restart, you have to download/install one manually. I need to copy & save the instructions to do that so if the worse should happen, I have the solution at the ready. I agree about needing a mouse to do graphics. I used a trackball for the longest time and then went to a keyboard/touchpad combo. Merely resizing images with anything but a mouse is challenging. Anything more advanced than that is gonna be an act of self-abuse.
No. Does what's on the monitor project onto that board? Or is it like a huge track pad where you still have to watch the monitor? That's a good idea if the pen has a fine point.
It just occurred to me that an optical mouse needs to be cleaned, and might need a proper reflective surface to work on. Doing that might fix tracking issues.
Yeah, you’re still watching the monitor but a pad that works with a stylus gives much finer control. Maybe you could try one at a computer store if you can find one ready to try. Graphic arts supply maybe?
The Logitech mouse started experiencing delayed reaction, randomly, a few days ago. The last straw. Just bought TWO cheap M100 Logitech wired mice at Office Depot, $10 each. If I had only bought one, I'd be tempted to keep one of these wireless ones as a backup. They both went straight to the trash can along with their dongles.
Decided I should update this. Recap: Haphazard movements of 2 different brands of wireless mice. Pointer jumping to the bottom of the screen at random times, temporarily. I have a Dell desktop pc. Update: New wired mouse has a similar problem. I happened to notice today that the pointer was meandering slowly around the computer screen at random, all by itself. I wasn't touching the mouse. The Windows Device Manager said a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth driver, called Dell Wireless 1705 802.11 b/g/n, was not installed properly. So I deleted it. The jerky mouse problem appears to be solved at least with the wired mouse. The only thing is I can't use Bluetooth with the pc now, because I can't download that driver again from Dell, yet. Fortunately, I don't have any Bluetooth devices on it right now. Already wasted too much time on it today. "I'll think about that tomorrow."
Have you looked at the sensitivity settings for your mouse? Not an expert, but if the sensitivity setting were too high, it could cause some weird stuff.
Yes. That was one of the things that worked for most people with similar problems. Didn't work for me. If I can ever get that Bluetooth driver reinstalled it will probably solve the wireless mouse issue also.
You could check the battery. When mine gets low it just stops working, but maybe a weak battery might cause the problem you're having on yours.
