I found a thread this a.m. when searching out Histamine Blockers, but earlier in other googled material, I saw that HI's were for Food Allergies, which mine are Environmental plus, I believe, Dairy. Was tested and diagnose with Environmental but my own conclusion on dairy. I haven't given it up, yet, hardly have any dairy. 1/2 yogurt, 1 ounce mozzarella cheese a day.

I saw a post from @Joy Martin on Antioxidants that might help me at long last, but I do use some already, like blueberries every day, 1/4 cup. Other foods I eat I'm not sure.

Here are my symptoms but zero problems after meals, so I am not sure at all I have HI, but I have allergies for sure, at least environmental. Anyone in the "know" please chime in as I feel totally beat down and I won't take anti-histamines except one 'script I take only when I get hives which is maybe once a month:

itchy and watering eye, yes, just one eye
constant mucus in throat and constant runny nose that keeps Kleenex in business
    itchy ears
    hives
sneezing many times in a.m.'s or sometimes after blowing my nose

I can't cough out the throat mucus, and it's totally clear, not any other color, and since I got on Keto, it's way better but still there and causes loss of voice in a.m.'s

I probably have other symptoms, but I've looked into DAO as a histamine blocker, but it's expensive for me and not sure that is what I need. I have zero reactions to any foods, like peanuts, which I can eat on Keto, but not immediate reactions like people seem to have that have food allergies. Zero stomach issues.

Any help so appreciated before I go off half-cocked spending money on useless products. I am using one otc eyedrops for the itching. I've done nasal irrigation til I think I'll drowned, saline solutions, more water, dropping all dairy, and zero help so far. Only thing that lessened the symptoms is a Keto diet, super low carb, under 20 grams a day, Fats are highest percentage, and proteins very close behind.

We take a boatload of supplements and still have mild allergy issues. Some of them we have been on for decades, some others come and go. Current list is:
    Multivitamin
    Curcumin
    Sambucus elderberry
    Vitamin C 500mg/day
    Grape seed extract
    Quercetin + Bromelain
    Magnesium citrate 250mg/day
    Cinnamon extract
    CoQ10 300 mg/day
    Cosamin DS
    Benadryl 25mg/day
    Berberine 1200mg/day
    Taurine

    I only take:

    Vitamin C
    Zinc
    Magnesium
Boron (supposed to help rebuild bone-loss from slight osteo-porosis)
I do turmeric daily in my decaf and tried Berberine, but didn't notice any effect.
    I also do collagen daily

I just started the Berberine and will stick with if for a couple years because of a research paper I read describing reduction in arterial plaque among users. I know there won’t be anything I can feel but if my next echocardiogram and carotid ultrasound stay about the same or show reduced plaque, I will stick with it permanently.

Denise, I don't take supplements except for an occasional melatonin, but I do take OTC allergy medication when I need it, usually Zyrtec. Some mucus in the back of the throat is caused by GERD or acid reflux disease, which has plagued me for quite a while. I find that is much worse when I consume dairy products.

I take the Walmart equivalent of Zyrtec all year long. If I don't, my "dose" :) stops up as tight as a drum and I lose my sense of smell. I used to take Claritin but that seemed to stop working.

That's why I was taking it Thomas, I can't remember why I stopped but I just took it for about 2 weeks or 3 I think it was. Oh, I just remembered, I had a case of the trots, not severe but that was the only new thing I was taking so I stopped. I may try them again. I had those same 2 tests and they showed nothing out of the ordinary but my cholesterol has always run a bit high and my MD is always worried but I won't take the statins.

That's what I'm thinking is going on with me, but I don't have any "burn" in my esophagus, not acid reflux, but it could still be LPR(silent reflux) but if it is, I have both the sinus issue and the LPR. I guess the zyrtec is ok for now, it helps with things like hives, but not so much with the throat issue, or sinuses. I do think dairy is a problem though, definitely. Even the little bit I eat of it.

Claritin I think is the same as Loratadine which my doc prescribed a few years ago. I don't remember it ever working very well on me, so I asked for something else and they gave me zyrtec. I think it fine if and this seasonal stuff blowing around here is pretty bad this year. Yellow buildup on our vehicles, and window "tracks" I'm constantly cleaning out. I do have an air purifier and it's running all night, and some of the day too. I have to open my windows though just for a bit to let in fresh air  pollen or not:(

I got rid of Sudafed over 25 yrs and happy to be rid of that allergy Drug.

On The Grape Seed Ex.the main reason I started with it in 1995, we were told may prevent Cancers.....that was music to my ears. Then so much wsa helped along the way, allergies, eyes, hearing, gums, I have not had a cold or flu in over 40 yrs as I also llove my Vit C. To not be a slave and owned by Pharma is enough for me anyway.

A huge benefit that has turned up in the last couple yrs is that Grape Seed Ex reduces amalyoid plaque build up on the brain. (Do a search on this). And to think how I told my neighbor to get with Grape Seed Ex yrs ago and she didn't, and yesterday she tells me she had to admit her husband to a hospice care as he's been dealing with some cancers and about 2 yrs ago, dementia reared it''s ugly head in his and her life. Makes me wonder if they had been taking Grape Seed Ex on my info

Supplements are major winners and yes I understand if one has to take pharma drug or 2 or 3......

hi Joy I had read something you'd written here on soc and I will definitely look into the grape seed extract it's been in my reading before but I don't recall having anything to do with antihistamines but I wasn't looking for that at the time I do read daily almost every morning on alternatives to prescriptions and I've been healed in a lot of ways just since I changed my nutrition and took a couple of supplements as you probably read I'm still on the Zyrtec on occasion but I'm really hoping to find permanent fix for this mucus issue I'll keep up everyone posted but I did just order today and it may sound weird but I read about alfalfa and nettle I guess it's called stinging nettle helping with allergies I'm going to try those two things and I do take c everyday I take one called Alma which is from believe it's berries want to say cherries but I think it's it's amalaki also an extract all right more tomorrow when I'm back on my pc

I decided to get back on my PC because of what I found, just searching on my phone. It's much easier to type on my pc and wanted to let you know @Joy Martin as well as others that may be reading, I found out a lot about the Grape Seed Oil, enough that I want to try some for my cholesterol issue as well as it's many other benefits! I'm so grateful you turned me onto it! I did listen to one gal's video, and she said to look for a brand that has polyphenols (see description below) because they help the Grape Seed Oil absorb the best. I don't know how much to take yet but the brand I got was Carlyle. The label says 3 a day (240 caps total) preferably with meals it says. I think I will start with one, that what I usually do to make sure it doesn't have some weird effect on me.

I didn't want to try the Berberine again for my cholesterol as it gave me a problem I mentioned above to @Thomas Windom. I know I started this on allergies so I'll get back to that but I feel really hopeful that I have some things on the way, I can try, especially the Grape Seed Extract ;)

thanks again to everyone who's chimed in so far. By the way Joy, in my 30s they had me on Seldane until it was pulled off the shelves because of heart issues. Made me wonder, in my mid 40s if that was why I had to have a pacemaker put in for a 3rd degree AV Node Block

Denise, starting out with Grape Seed Ex, 200mg seems to be the popular dose..I've taken 200 mg and in the last few months, starting using Now Foods 240mg caps and yes the polyphenols are high in the quality brands.

You might get 100mg capsules and do 100mg on one day, 200mg the alt days. Experiment Just be sure you take enough for bodyweight.

On the cholesterol issue, pharma and their gang have the word in fear of cholesterol. Our bodies need it and for sure our brains do.

The statins that are being handed out like candy I believe has gotten many too lower in cholesterol and are ending up with cognitive issues.

Ok Joy, good info on the doses, I'll be careful, and I'll be reading more on it in the a.m. when I'm a bit more sharp ;)

I have been on Ketogenic diet for 2.6 years now and my mentors are convinced cholesterol is not to be feared, plus the articles and videos I watch from Dr. Ben Bikman, several of the Diet Doctors from their channel on Youtube, and also Low Carb Down Under, especially Dr. Paul Mason. I admit I am a bit scared at how high mine has gone since I've been on Keto, but I've had many tests run, any my insurance will cover, and there's no issues of plaque in my arteries.

Thanks again, it's been great to be able to talk about the allergy things as well as the cholesterol. I had just remembered they had the board here on Health and Wellness ;)
