Heavily-advertised for weight loss & diabetes. Creating nightmares for patients: https://www.yahoo.com/news/took-blockbuster-drugs-weight-loss-192756033.html
Never trust a drug company.... They love it when you have to take additional meds to counteract the side effects of drugs prescribed. Look at the "mental health drugs" that cause unintentional movements for which you have to take another drug to remedy that. Then there are "antidepressants that don't work, so you have to take more drugs to make the antidepressants work, and so on....
oh my Lord, this is what a woman that is one of my neighbors was bragging about losing weight with Is this a once a week jab you are to put into whatever area you have fat? OMG, I almost couldn't go to sleep last night thinking of the horror of it. But hey, a lot of people won't open their minds to a ketogenic diet which is a diet that is easily sustainable for life! It's just whole food mostly, or reading labels really close to avoid nasty stuff they add to foods, that literally can mean cancer or many things to folks. Most folks seem to be open to quick-fixes and don't think about their future, and is it something they can live with the rest of their life.
My daughter and a niece are on this. Daughter is very low dose for a year, but it is for her pre diabetes . She has been on a year and says no problem. Niece is on for weight loss no idea but will be seeing her today and ask questions. I agree with my deceased brother in law- never jump right in on anything, wait until the bugs have been worked out.
Man, everyone here that is thinking about short-cuts to losing weight best read this info first. I'm getting it printed out for my neighbor and it will be her decision if she reads it, and reconsiders Thank you for this @Tony Nathanson
I've often said that their needs to be a Side Effect dating website. The people who take meds for gastric distress and suffer headaches as a side effect can hook up with the people who take meds for headaches and suffer gastric distress as a result. The new pickup line might be "I'm a Merck. What's your pharm?"
Well, it would be worth a try to find someone who is a good match. I'm afraid to date anyone because I usually find out we have nothing in common, at all. When I was young I was never smart enough to wait and actually get the know the guy first, you know, like become "friends" first, geesh!
I agree, @Denise Evans . People always want a shortcut or the easy way to lose weight. I remember when we were young, diet pills were the rage so using pharmaceuticals for weight loss is not a new idea. I always fall back on calorie counting when I need to drop a few pounds. I have tried low carbing many times as far back as the original Atkins, but I just can't do without carbs...gotta have my bread. A few days of "keto flu" and that's enough of that for me.
I have a harder time restricting calories than I do carbs, but yes, I did go through withdrawals from sugars/high-carb foods (keto flu). I had an extra incentive being diagnosed with the T2 Diabetes. I was shocked, and then I got scared, sort of "scared straight". Luckily I found Keto which allowed me to still eat all I wanted. and some carbs as well. I miss things, and wish I could have a gut-bomb on occasion. Burgers just aren't the same without the bun
I had a brush with "pre-diabetes" about 15 years ago. I changed my diet significantly, eliminating all "white" foods (flour, sugar, rice, etc.) It only took a month or so to drop my glucose numbers back into a normal range. I resumed my regular "everything in moderation" diet after that and I have not had high A1Cs since. I know how effective eliminating carbs is for a diabetic, and you are smart to know how to control your own numbers. Many people would rather take Metformin and continue a poor diet (my brother for one.) I also found that if I got on the treadmill immediately after eating for at least 10 minutes, I never had a spike in my glucose numbers. Anyone who wants to control Type 2 can do so with a bit of effort so I applaud your efforts. I bought myself a meter and a supply of strips and tested myself many times a day... upon waking, 30 minutes after each meal, after exercising, etc. I could see how any of that affected my numbers, which were always higher in the early morning due to the "dawn effect" which I see has been renamed "dawn phenomenon". All this to say that a keto diet has a real benefit for some people. It's just not for me, and neither are the "new" drugs that people are using for weight loss.
I remember years ago when Synthroid was first on the market. It was also prescribed as a "diet pill". College girls figured if one pill (dose?) was good three would allow them to lose faster. The main side effect I recall was they would be up for days without sleep, and, of course, severe jitters Then they decided it was better for "cramming" before exams. It was soon no longer allowed for weight loss. I assume because of cardiac or other issues. When they were awake, though, they would be begging for laundry to do or stuff to clean...they just couldn't sit still.
I think many are diagnosed as T2 due to the Dawn Effect/Phenomenon when they should be categorized as pre-diabetic. It raises the numbers of diabetics. IMO A1c should be the decider: >6.5 is diabetic.
I don't remember synthroid being used for weight loss... isn't that a thyroid medicine? I was thinking of the amphetamines and stuff like Fen-Phen, which was determined to cause heart problems.
I don't know of anyone who is diagnosed as T2 without A1C testing. A single glucose reading would be wildly inaccurate for any diagnostic purpose, no matter what time of day.
