I have seen it many times, but it is not based on a single glucose, but rather 3 or more consecutive fasting glucose readings over 130 mg/dl. With Dawn Phenomenon, many consecutive glucose readings can be that high, but drop shortly after as you found.

It was only marketed for such for a short period, around the mid-1960s. Amphetamines were used for much longer and may be used by some even now.

The best thing for pre diabetes is a change in eating & lifestyle habits. Not drugs that can cause serious harm in the future.
But, of course changes are difficult & drugs are easy. Drug companies know this & easy fixes are the route to big profits, especially when the risks are downplayed - by doctors. That's why "Talk to your doctor about your medications" is often useless. Doctors get big perks from drug companies for prescribing & most will take advantage of them.

Every thing you mentioned was mentioned on my ketogenic forum Beth! I wish I could have added some bread back but that was the first thing I tried. It's been 2.5 or 2.6 years now so it could get a lot better and maybe I could do more things, carb wise in moderation. But I am grateful for the things I can eat but I keep my foods in moderation pretty much. I eat quite a bit of meats and fish, pork, and chicken. I eat yogurt, (Two Good Brand) walnuts, almonds, peanuts, and my fave berries I can eat, strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries.

You've read a lot, good for you doing your own research!! Dawn Phenomenon, I went through a time of that too in the first months, maybe up to a year. I have all my notes I kept on my tests I'd do 3 times a day until I knew my foods pretty much, and as you know, it's pretty exciting when those A1c's start going down and your doctor and nurses really brag you up ;) What liked most about that whole thing was learning how to poke my fingers without any ouch at all ;) This guy on my forum taught me!

I sleep so much better when I walk after dinner, usually 30 minutes, but like you, I found out 10 minute walks were plenty to make sure of no spikes if I did eat a few more carbs like at a potluck, that was a real test with all that food I'd eaten all my life :D

I sure wouldn't entrust a diagnosis that didn't come from an A1c, unless that test was unavailable, unaffordable to someone because it goes over numbers from at least 3 months if I remember right.

Also, I heard it has to do with how long your BG stays high that's important and I think the A1c's can also tell that, not for a specific time, but averaging things out, or however that calculated.

And btw, have you ever noticed if you google T2 Diabetic numbers they are different according to which site you go into. That's way helpful, LOL! For example 6.5 is supposed to be a good A1c, but on my lab reports, I was always Flagged with that number, or over 5.9. There are a heck of a lot of doctors/scientists/studies reporting that cholesterol is not bad for us, high cholesterol is, with good Triglycerides/HDL ratio are just fine!! I wish these "talking heads" would put their heads together on something!

A1c gives you an index of the blood sugar over the past 90 days. I pushed the A1c as a screen up here for years but was dismissed with a pooh-pooh by most. Now it is considered a standard tool. There are other things I am right about ;) but are dismissed as well due to failure to understand by the medical community--her, at least.

I really don't know what "index" means in this context. I was told, these words too, that it was sort of an average, or kind of an average. No one ever said it was an average, see what I'm saying? I never looked it up, and I could look it up but it make sense to me that it would be an average, that's me and my sometimes silly common sense ;)

I haven't accomplished anything much in my life that I really felt proud of, but when I was diagnosed with T2 Diabetes, I had already been on an addictive drug that was prescribed for anxiety back in 1988. I had horrible, side-effects trying to get off it 2 times in my life since then. It was so frightening that I am determined to try anything besides a drug that is prescribed. So I turned down Metformin when the T2 was diagnosed 2.5 years ago.

I read, looked all over the web, and found Keto, I'm amazed I've stuck with it 2.5 years and I'm in what I call remission from T2. I can't eat some foods, true, probably never again, but I honestly love my life with low carb, so many benefits. It's not as hard to do as some might think, change your nutrition, clean out your cupboards and fridge of food that could kill you eventually. Or, take a pill that leads, usually, to taking another for symptoms of the first pill, and then it goes on like that til you are so sick, and can't believe you are an addict, Made by Big Pharma, and a doctor who's so-called knowledge you trusted. Not a bad man/woman Doctor, just not up on what long time use of pills that were never meant for long time use.

I am now slowly but surely, and I feel very safely, weaning off the drug I thought I could never live without and I believe, even at 70, I can kick it and should be done my taper by early 2024, I hope and pray.

Please look into whatever pill you're offered, before you agree to take it, and maybe look at some alternative remedies for what ails you. Educating ourselves is smart, we aren't criminals because we don't trust every doctor we see, some folks are so afraid to ask questions of their doctors like it's disrespectful!! It's YOUR body, not their's, your life, your decision.

Most people who think their doctor knows best because he's educated aren't aware that drug companies pay for their doctors' continuing education.

I was referring to the fact that A1c doesn't directly indicate the average blood sugar over 90 days, say 110 mg/dl. It could be something like 5.8% that isn't a blood sugar number but rather an index. I believe some labs provide equivalent "average blood sugar" numbers with the A1c.

Yes and those drug companies wouldn't be biased at all right ;) The tobacco companies, alcohol, and drug have to be about the richest liars in the world!

I found sparkling water I can drink, although the flavoring they put in it I'm not sure of "what" exactly that is. I came within seconds of buying one that had caffeine in it! I don't drink any caffeine because of a tremor I have, and now they snuck in caffeine to that brand. It's from Pepsi company or Coke, called Bubly. They can't keep Bubly stocked because T2 diabetics have so little beside water they can safely drink, so of course Pepsi, and Coke (probably other sugar-filled soft drink companies) had to get on the money-train for folks on Keto, or T2, or any low carb folks :( Have to read the labels. I know lots of folks drink caffeine, it's just one I can handle.

My neighbour is bordering on having to I use insulin due to his eating habits that I’m sure cause him to have high sugar readings.

He eats a ton of carbs …. he has cereal for breakfast … 2 huge bread rolls with high fat fillings for lunch and a usual
Meal of veggies and meat for evening meals
    with bread ( again)
They eat out twice a week on average at pubs and they are always schnitzels or something fatty …. and he yells and screams F & C words about all the non diabetics getting the jabs instead of being reserved for diabetics
If he had any sense he wouldn’t need the jabs just cut out sooooo many carbs….

He’s not very active in exercise his wife puts bins in and out … she mows the lawn …she dose most of the outside /inside work , as well as looking after a 33 year old son with disabilities

I remember when the American Heart Association spat on Campbell's request for an endorsement as a "heart healthy food." I guess a day's worth of sodium jiggered the deal. So they came out with the Healthy Request line.
