According to this (and I do not know if it is correct or not), Ramaswamy has never been a Republican, and contributed to Hilllary’s campaign in 2016. This is from his contribution to Actblue. I do not see this as necessarily bad, because I have never been a registered Republican either, and just vote independent. When Trump first ran, none of us knew how he would turn out to be as a president, and many people voted for Hillary just for that reason, and later became Trump supporters.
You never know. He could be a well-spoken fraud trying to deceive the people. Remember Trump was a Democrat for most of his life and contributed to Bill Clinton's campaign and many others.
This is just one more problem with political parties. Most folks are forced to hold their nose and participate in a party in order to get any traction. Non-party affiliated people have almost no chance. I hate political parties.
One thing I'm fairly certain of, is Ramaswanny will get the Trump supporters if Trump doesn't run. I just listened to him on Twitter and just one statement to Chris Christie was "Donald Trump was the best President of the Century" something like that. Kinda makes me wonder about him, sorry, I don't trust easily.
I still believe it's more about Christian Conservatives for a lot of people. It wouldn't matter if the parties were abolished, which they probably won't be, it would still be about people for themselves, or people that know if their country is ok, then they are best off.
People are tribal for sure. I agree, they would find some other rallying cry. I still hate political parties.

well neither had I, but I voted for the other guy because I never liked him since I heard him talking, or the lack thereof, to Joe the Plumber.
