Some Follow up information A statement posted on his website said: “Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs.” Buffett, who sang about beach bums, hustlers and pirates, spun those tunes into tiki and palm tree-adorned business ventures across restaurants, footwear, resorts, real estate, books, Broadway, food and liquor.
TMZ says he died of cancer, but no official cause of death was posted when I left. Apparently he had a brush with a lymphoma of some kind a while back.
"Buffett died from Merkel cell carcinoma, an aggressive and relatively rare skin cancer, that eventually metastasized into lymphoma." "Buffett was reportedly first diagnosed with skin cancer four years ago. A friend of Buffett told TMZ that the cause of the "Cheeseburger in Paradise" crooner's illness wasn't exactly surprising to those who knew and loved him, explaining, "He lived his life in the sun, literally and figuratively."
Sadly, while I recognized the name, I couldn't have guessed whether Jimmy Buffet had been a sports figure, a movie star, a singer, a dancer, or just a famous rich guy. I wouldn't have guessed politician because I probably would have been more familiar with him if he had been. In my head, he had name recognition, but that's about it.
"This is a clip of Jimmy, Jerry Jeff Walker and Greg "Fingers" Taylor on The Texas Connection back in 1991. Jimmy talks a little bit about Phil Clark on whom the song "A Pirate Looks At Forty" was based." Jimmy Buffett - A Pirate Looks At Forty 1991
I can see why Jimmy Buffett was so popular, especially in live concerts. Just watching him makes you smile.
