Cat food prices have skyrocketed, and while I haven't tracked these reports down, I am reading that several pet food manufacturers have quietly changed their recipes to use less expensive ingredients. Kibble prices haven't increased a great deal, at least not so that I have noticed, but the canned food I buy has gone up by at least $20 on a case of 24 cans.
How? Did they eat the cat? Mine eat almost everything around;, cat food, frogs, bugs, seeds, berries...Probably taste better than crumby old corn.
I buy her eggs from a middle man. He thought the problem could also be a lack of daylight due to the time of year. I gotta think that in this region her chickens "free range." But my friend showed my a bag of chicken feed he sells and pointed out where the protein content was reduced.
All very enlightening and pretty scarey.Sounds like Armageddon.Or end of days.Yikes!I wouldn't have anywhere TO stock up in my lil place nor could I.
Ditto that, crazy increases. Even cat litter. Both wet food and litter are heavy; I suspect stupid high energy prices impact both manufacture and transportation.
On a recent shopping trip, I looked at beef. They had the prep date on the label. In 4 days, the price had risen a dollar a pound. A sign of things to come. Also be aware that this is the time the refineries switch over to winter blends, so the prices will 'temporarily' jump as this happens. Fill up now if you need to do so.
I am bringing my barn cat left over rabbit tonite. He usually catches his own. I used to make my dogs their food.
Commodities market shows a 66% rise in raw cocoa prices, so those of you who like chocolate should increase your stash.
I get the Yupik raw cocoa from amazon , and both bobby and I really like it. If cocoa is going to almost double in price, it is time for me to order another bag of it , it sounds like. If the market is already showing that much of an increase, we will be seeing it on the store prices right away, too ! What do you see about chicory, @Don Alaska ? I am drinking more of that now because it is not a stimulant like coffee, it is anti-aging, and has inulin. The one I like so far is called Chicoraya, if you can check specific brands.
I like Chicory Root instead of Coffee as well. I get it in "bulk" at our Health-food store, didn't look at the brand though. I've ordered it on Amazon too from Worldwide Botanicals French Chicory Root - Dark Roast
I've been using the Millard brand of cacao powder, but have been reading articles about the high cadmium levels in many brands of dark chocolate and cacao/cocoa powder. I found nothing about heavy metals on Amazon's Millard product page, but someone in the YuPik Q&A says that they test for cadmium and lead. I may order a couple of bags of YuPik. Regarding chicory: I brew a 6 cup canning jar of the Chiroraya every few days, and use the instant every night after dinner (mixed with Teeccino + cacao + coconut oil + prebiotic powders.) I just received 2 bags of the granules and 2 bags of the instant yesterday. But that won't last a real long time.
I don't know that chicory is listed on the commodities market, but I can look if I get a chance. Cocoa is reportedly going up due to droughts in tropical countries that is reducing harvests. Inflation will be reflected in anything that is imported easpecially.
I just got a 1lb bag of chickory. I haven't tried the brand yet. Was thinking of harvesting it on the farm but the chickens keep eating the seeds. It has inulin in it too.
