I love mushrooms. I used to always have fresh veggies and homemade dip on hand, and mushrooms were always one of the things I loved to eat raw. I also like them stuffed (with crab, preferably) and cannot eat a steak without sautéed shrooms on top of it. I use to do a lot of stir-fry, and have cooked with a number of the Asian dried mushrooms/fungi. Other than that, it's been the grocery store white "button" mushrooms. I've not really messed with Shitaki or Crimini or Portobello. I've always wanted to grow my own, but have not messed with it. When I was a kid in Indiana we used to hunt morels. At that age, I didn't care for them.
I read there are compounds in mushrooms that kill cancer cells. Well, maybe, but they are also a good meat substitute.
Since I have been adding the medicinal mushroom powders to my coffee, I have been reading more about their benefits, and there are actually several of the mushroom that help for prevention of cancer, according to what I have been reading. Since I read a LOT, I have Kindle Unlimited, and have been reading this medicinal mushroom book, which tells about quite a few of the mushrooms and what their health benefits are. The powder i am now adding to my coffee has 10 different medicinal mushrooms added to it, plus I am also using the Cordyceps powder that I got before that is helping my kidney function.
I guess you saw that some of the Teeccinos have mushroom in them, but I don't know what types or i what concentrations. It's all fascinating stuff.
Yes, several of the Teeccino have mushrooms, and I still have one of them that I am using, don’t remember offhand which mushrooms are in the blend I have. Now that I have the mushroom powders that I have been adding to my morning coffee, I do that in the mornings and make the Teeccino if I want something hot to drink before bedtime.
Here is one of the charts that shows some of the benefits of the Cordyceps mushroom, and several of the others mentioned in the book show similar benefits. He explained that anti-fertility was mis-labeled and it actually means that it helps testosterone levels in men. This is a screenshot from a video, and I believe I posted the whole video somewhere in one of the kidney health or gut health thread.
Have any of you tried this? It is one of the oldest condiments and can allegedly be made form any type of mushroom.
I have never heard of that. I wonder how much dried porcini costs. I recall once noting that the most expensive thing in the grocery store on a per-pound basis was dried mushrooms.
You can make it with fresh mushrooms as well. It was the primary condiment in the U.S. until Heinz figured out how to bottle tomatoes for a profit sometime in the mid-19th century.
Maybe I can just stir in a little bit of my mushroom powder into my ketchup next time I have some and see how that tastes ? Or if @John Brunner makes some, he can let us all know how it turns out.
We all need to agree on a mutually acceptable location so we can be neighbors. I love to share my cooking.
