All I want from a vet is for them to tell me the truth and give an honest opinion when I ask for it. Not wishy-washy CYA responses. And maybe most of all, use common sense. All large animal vets I've dealt with are like that. If I were a vet I'd choose large animal. But you don't get wealthy doing that, unless maybe if you restrict your practice to race horses. And it's hard dirty work.
What I'm afraid of is she will get turned off eating her regular food, thinking the dangling stitch is caused by the food. She has already almost stopped eating. I may have to go buy a whole bunch of different kinds of cat food, until this stitch falls out. Remember how stinky cat food used to be in the 1950s? Strong fishy smell. It came in big cans and the cats loved it. I can barely even smell the cat food now. It's made for humans to (not) smell, not for cats.
Went shopping this afternoon and picked up one of each of several different kinds of cat food, some in broth. Even looked for some fresh liver. All I could find was frozen. It seems to be working. She's trying a little bit of everything. (Or maybe the stitch fell out.) She likes the liver, but the internet says not very much for cats. Liver is not good for their liver. It's always something. I'm going to be stuck with almost a pound of liver. I'm done with this topic for now. Don't want to repeat anything too many times.
Ha! Ha!. I could go for that piece of Bizarro Pie in the corner. It's still working. She gobbled up everything I put down this morning. Especially likes the liver. Now I read that chicken liver is better for them than beef. It's such disgusting stuff. It disintegrates into slime when it warms up to room temp. Still sneezing/snorting/whatever. She's a good little cat.
I’m surprised by that. Do you remember where you read that? Organ meats are very important for kitty health, from what I read, they’re the only meats that contain the essential amino acids that kitties need, otherwise they need to be added as supplements.
They say it's OK in moderation. Something about vitamin A toxicity. I know excess vitamin A is not excreted like other vitamins. It builds up in fatty tissue. "As a general rule, stick to no more than a tablespoon once or twice a week. Beef liver comes with higher chances of vitamin A toxicity.".. LINK
Livers are poisonous to us all for that reason. I remember a story of An early explorer of Antarctica (?) who was injured and on going back to the base being pulled on a sled, he was fed animal liver as it was soft enough for him to eat raw--and that is all he ate. He died a bad death. But liver in moderation should be good for us all.
(10/11/23) Tuesday Almost a year ago, the dentist said 2 teeth (mine, not the cat's) in the very back needed to be pulled. One has a root canal. The other was no bother either, so I kept putting it off. Finally the crown popped off this summer exposing a nerve. Dentists here refuse to pull teeth now. Must see an oral surgeon. The earliest appointment available in town was 3 months away. Rewind to Tuesday. The long-awaited appointment came. Oh wait, no, this was just a "consult." But they are pulling them this coming Tuesday, Oct 17th. They took one of those expensive X-rays that does a circle around your head. Can you believe all this just to pull a couple of teeth?
I think there is also some fear of lawsuits due to complications involved. My dentist passed up an easy $500 for 3 minutes of work by not pulling the last tooth. You should see all the papers you have to sign, relieving them of responsibilities if anything goes wrong, before the oral surgeon will even talk to you. I'm actually fine with that, though. Nothing they covered could be describe as incompetence or malpractice. Things happen.
I had a tooth pulled pre-COVID, and the oral surgeon did a circular x-ray. I didn't give it much thought at the time. I've not had one before or since. edit to add: Will your cat be on here posting stories about your dental work?
