The complications can be horrible and, given that prostate cancer usually grows slowly and I was asymptomatic, I still wonder sometimes if I'd have been better off not having been diagnosed. Not treating it was an option but once I knew that it was there, I couldn't just not do anything about it.
I do know someone that got diagnosed with it in 2004. I don't know what he had done in way of treatment but he is still alive at 91.
With prostate cancer, it differs so much from one person to another. I have a cousin who went through radiation, as I did, and has had no side effects whatsoever.
Yes, aside from knowing he has prostrate cancer I don't know any details but I don't think he's ever experienced anything bad. I've been on forums with him since 2004 and he's never even been sick.
Most people who have had cancer and now cancer free. This includes the people who went the medical route. Spiritual, alterative, or any other. The one thing in common was a paradigm shift in the way they think of their health. They normally start eating differently doing things that they did not do before. We as people believe we are infallible until something happens. We now know that a lot of things we do lead to cancer – smoking / lung cancer, burn meat/breast cancer, food with nitrites/ prostate cancer and so on. Good luck to anyone who has cancer and how you will deal with it.
Here's a link to a multi-part video series about the causes, and things that the average person might be able to do reduce his or her chances of getting cancer, which is something my doctors have been unable to give me any help with. It's called The Truth About Cancer, and whether it's the truth or not, I don't really care. I am offering it here for anyone who might be interested in what they have to say.
@Ken Anderson My high school buddy, Charlie, the only one from back then who "kept in touch", expressed his feelings exactly as you did above, when he was diagnosed over a year ago. He chose the Brachytherapy procedure, in which tiny radioactive "seeds" are inserted into the prostate. In his case, the aftermath was pretty debilitating. Interestingly, Charlie is 5 days younger than I, born same month and year. Frank
One of the well-known doctors who specializes in thyroid diseases , is Dr. Brownstein, and he has quite a few articles about proper protection against thyroid cancer, as well as other cancers, such as prostate cancer and breast cancer. Some of the videos that I have watched are intereting; but not very good photographic quality, on his Youtube channel. However, this video, which discusses the interaction of thyroid, iodine insufficiency, and cancer, seems to be well put together and informative. It is long, so grab a fresh cup of coffee before sitting down to watch this, @Ken Anderson . https://w3.brownsteinhealth.com/Health/DRB/LP/Thyroid-Disorder-Video?promo_code=zhs3nmqq
I moved the conversation relating to the suppression of cancer information or cures to the conspiracies area, not because I consider it to be a crazy thing to consider but because the level of argument is stronger than I'd like in this part of the forum, and there are greater allowances for it there. Whether true or false, if there is a suppression of cancer treatments, that is indeed a conspiracy. When I posted the links that led to it, I thought I would be introducing a conspiracy discussion but I didn't necessarily want to discuss it myself, and didn't want to create a thread that no one else was interested in, so I decided to see if it led to a discussion. It did. So, if you want to discuss the possibility that the medical community is suppressing cures for cancer, you are quite welcome to do do, and I hope you do, but let's do so in this other thread instead.
The results of the biopsy are in and unfortunately, it was a cancerous tumor. Although not the most horrible type of cancer it might have been, I will have to be going back under the knife in a month or so, but they'll be able to do it at my local hospital, which I prefer, rather than at a larger hospital, as would have been the case had it been another type of cancer. Yes, I am sad. I was hoping that I was done with it. But the last operation went easy enough, for me, so, while this one may be a little more difficult, I have every reason to believe they'll handle it fine. One negative is that I will have to take something to replace all of the things that the thyroid would otherwise be producing, as they will be killing any thyroid tissue that is not removed.
I am sorry to hear that the results were not benign; but as you mentioned before, at least they are catching it right away, and hopefully, this will take care of the situation permanently. Let us know when you will be going back for the next surgery, and we will be praying for you again.
I'm sorry to hear this Ken but so glad it's not the deadly one. Sounds like one my mom had. Don't worry about the meds, I've taken them for most of my life. My mom has taken them since her operation in 1997. They really are an easy med, no side effects. Not expensive. I recommend you take the brand name. Hardest part is getting the right dose. Also remember my mom getting radioactive iodine as part of her treatment. She was in an isolation room for a couple days.
Yeah, the radioactive iodine is a part of it, too. That's what kills whatever they might miss in the operation.
