Update on the wedding party (I knew this would happen). Quote: "We turned a 9 1/2 hour trip into 15." Agrees we should cancel. Says she is going to start planning the trip to Florida on the way back home Sunday. I really need a break. It's these plans that are killing me.
I think you are right. She bit off more than anyone could chew. I get the impression traveling is new to them. Maybe they both just retired. Elaborate wedding plans like this are stressful for everyone anyway, and frankly inconsiderate of everyone involved.
@John Brunner: If I gave that picture a "Like," it would imply I understand it, which would be dishonest. So I'll "bite." The dog looks ... confused?
I guess it's confusion. I snagged it a while and have been itching to use it. Make of it what you will. Perhaps "flummoxed" is a good fit.
Speaking of plans... I always make plans. Practical plans. Plus at least 2 backup plans for every plan. And start early. This has turned out to be a productive experience. I was unaware of 2 of the plumbing leaks at the mobile home, because there was never a need to use those 2 sinks. They would have ruined the cabinets underneath soon had they been used and not fixed. After the plumbing, house cleaning didn't take long because no one lives there. Last Saturday I mopped the rooms with vinyl floors. Just two bathrooms, a utility room, and part of the kitchen. So I did it the old-fashioned way, with a washcloth and bucket on hands and knees. You can do a much better job that way. Get into all the corners and find things you would miss. Now I want to move out there, because everything is cleaner than my house in town. The good thing about mobile homes is they have lots of storage space. There is actually a 3rd small bedroom out there and all 3 have walk-in closets. The kitchen is full of drawers and cabinets. It's so much easier to keep a neat house when there is a place for everything. I think I'll go out this afternoon and try the new faucet cartridges. There is no danger now if it creates another new plumbing problem.
But what is the saying about "idle hands?" (Proverbs 16: 27-29) I may have to mow all winter. The new ryegrass has been coming up well, with a little help watering during the dry spell. I've been filling in the gaps with more seeds. By Thanksgiving there should be almost complete coverage if the weather stays mild. Today I'll try to look for some bigger cedar trees out in the country. The ground has been too hard and dry to dig deep until lately.
