I guess that we should apply the same logic to SUV’s now as well, since more and more times they are being used as a weapon for mass killing and injuring people. We need to get those big vehicles off of the roads and highways, so crazy people can’t use an SUV to drive through a crowd. People can all just drive tiny Smart Cars, or……even better……stop people from driving at all and we can all buy a self-driving car, and it won’t run into any group of people somewhere near a roadway. Back in the 1950-60’s, when I was growing up, just about every family had hunting rifles. People that had a pickup had a gun rack in the back window and in the fall, those racks ALL had rifles (2-3 of them) , and were driven everywhere, all over town; as well as older teenagers driving the trucks to high school. None of us shot a bunch of school kids or strangers, and it was not for lack of guns being available.
In 2020, the Coast Guard counted 5,265 recreational boating incidents that involved 767 deaths, 3,191 injuries, and about $62.5 million in damage to property. Since 2000, 14,295 lives were lost due to recreational boating accidents. When will the carnage end? How many more have to die before we finally outlaw recreational boating? We have bridges and commercial means of getting from one place to another. In a civilized world, we have no need for private boat ownership. It serves no useful purpose. We've tried regulating them and apparently, that doesn't work, so we need to take adequate steps to save lives. Boats kill, and we need to ban them now. When will we take the necessary steps to end the slaughter? If even one life will be saved, it will have been worth it, since I don't boat anyhow.
Recent case in point: https://abcnews.go.com/US/7-dead-after-car-runs-pedestrians-brownsville-texas/story?id=99152817 A driver is facing manslaughter charges after he allegedly plowed his car into 18 pedestrians at a Brownsville, Texas, bus stop, killing eight and injuring 10 others. The crash occurred at 8:29 a.m. Sunday near the Ozanam Center, according to Brownsville police. Some of the victims struck by the gray Range Rover were migrants under the care of Border Patrol, according to Brownsville police spokesman Martin Sandoval. Some were from Venezuela and all of the victims were males, Brownsville Police Chief Felix Sauceda said.
Sadly, you don't here reports like these on the news. Only the ones pushing the Dem agenda. And now some conservatives are moving over.
This mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine just came on the news. 10 dead, dozens injured. Shooter still on the loose. It looks like Millinocket is not very close to Lewiston. Hope you and loved ones are all okay. https://www.yahoo.com/gma/active-shooter-situation-lewiston-maine-002004508.html
22 dead now, I am hearing on a local radio report. I don't know if it's accurate, though. It is not necessarily related, but Lewiston is known for having the largest percentage of Muslims in the state after a former mayor invited Somalian immigrants to come to the city. I mention that only because most of the violence occurring in Lewiston has traditionally been related to its Muslim population, and occasionally the fact that some people are upset about that. Yeah, Lewiston is way south of us, closer to New Hampshire than Millinocket.
22 dead and 50-60 injured, I am hearing. They're talking about more than one shooter now, but speculatively.
The shooter who has been identified is Robert Card, a licensed firearms instructor, and member of the Maine Army National Guard. He has had some mental health issues lately. I think he's going to end up being the only shooter, although there's still some talk about another. The total number of homicides in the state last year was only a few more than the number of people this guy has killed, and he hasn't been caught yet.
Reports are differing this morning, and some of the pictures of Card look different from the pictures of the shooter. People are asking why no one took any video at all, why only one helicopter was looking for the shooter, and why there are no pictures at all of the attack scenes. Here is one post screenshot from Twitter.
I know all the info isn’t out yet but all the wounded and dead but no one shot back? No one threw a brick or a can of beans or in any way tried to protect themself? A man carrying a rifle can be seen a mile off and no one questioned it enough to arm themself? And, to the psychiatric side, what meds did the VA give him when he was counted as being mentally unstable? What, if any, responsibility does the VA intend to take upon itself for releasing him and not reporting his mental condition to the authorities?
Was the VA taking care of him? But, it does seem rather odd that nobody done a thing to protect themselves. Perhaps the guy knew that who he was going after didn't "carry".
