Lots of folks are wondering this. Millenocket has Constitutional Carry, with (I believe) the exception of places that serve alcohol...and no one was armed and shot back? It makes zero sense. But it's a fact. Perhaps those places were "Gun Free Zones." I don't know.
I watched the press conference and it seemed like the governor had a hard time pulling herself from the microphone and ended up saying nothing of real substance anyway. She also referenced Biden twice. Typical politician. What I noticed from the pic as he entered an establishment with gun shouldered was he had no body armor. Can't say why.
It's about 3:00 pm on Thursday, still no shooter in custody. I suspect he has already ended this event, and they will find his body somewhere in the woods or in the lake. My prayers and condolences to the families and close friends of all the victims.
Listening to the retired FBI guys on the tube make it sound like everyone is somewhat afraid of this guy. He appears to be a well-trained, very able shooter. They now believe he had a stash car and he has taken off to a predesignated retreat somewhere, but they don't know where. The cops are used to apprehending the run-of-the-mill nutty guy, but one who has military training, is a firearms instructor and is probably well armed and has planned the entire thing out including his escape might be someone nobody in law enforcement wants to deal with. Does anyone know anything about the victims? Was any individual or group targeted?
What I last saw on CBS said he was not a firearms instructor, but he was in the Army National Guard. They gave the dead at 18 and the wounded at 22. Far fewer than previously stated.
I was on another forum yesterday that said the guy had targeted specific people. 1-I have no idea where that commenter got that info 2-That's an awful lot of people to have on your list, unless it was some work/military group together at a single place. I've heard things last night and on the radio today that the higher-ups in his unit were concerned b his state of mind. No particulars were given.
I was wrong about the Guard. Well, they said it was the Guard but I guess it was actually the Army Reserves.
Those things often get inflated and confused in real time because people are reporting what they're hearing in a dynamic situation. Even at this point, we probably don't know what actually occurred. I know there was some confusion when they arrested a 17-year-old with a history of gun offenses carrying what the news referred to as an "assault rifle," which probably just means that it was scary-looking. I don't think he was related to the shooting, though. I haven't looked into it yet today because I've been busy. Lewiston, and much of Southern Maine, are more like Massachusetts than the rest of Maine, so there probably wouldn't be as many people carrying guns, with the exception of drug dealers and gang members. Lewiston and Auburn are side-by-side, and there's talk about merging the two cities, making Lewiston-Auburn the largest city in Maine. Portland and Lewiston-Auburn have problems that we don't often see in the rest of the state. There's a lot of Democrats in Lewiston so it's one of our more violent cities.
At the press conference they showed his picture but did not mention height; weight etc. He looked like he was sporting a beard as he was holding the rifle, but no beard on the mug shot.
I has come out that whomever released the information about him being a firearms instructor was wrong. Some parts of the media have changed that to some kind of “fuel expert”. (whatever that means) Like anything dealing with the press, I think we’re going to find a few more changes to what has already been published.
As of 10 p.m. on Thursday the shooter has not been taken into custody. And yes, the deaths are now listed as 18, and wounded as 13. Here's a link to the latest update: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-new...hooting-manhunt-gunman-police-live-rcna122270
It's about 10PM Eastern Time on Friday. https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/lewiston-maine-mass-shootings-10-27-23/index.html
He was under psychiatric treatment - which means drugs. All those drugs carry a warning: "This drug can cause suicidal & homicidal tendencies." And most mass shooters are on them. He committed mass murder - and he committed suicide (recent report say he was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.)
