In addition to what @Bobby Cole said below, the apheresis is often used for massive trauma, as the clotting factors are contained in the plasma. I don't remember how often plasma can be pheresed, but it is more often than cells can be taken. It may depend on how much plasma is taken. Cancer patients also sometimes receive plasma to regulate their protein levels as such. Platelets are given to stop bleeding. Both plasma and platelets can be given more freely and more quickly as they don't have to be "crossmatched" since there is little danger of a reaction without cells. True crossmatching isn't really done any more unless you have a history of problems with blood transfusions.

Tried to get my monthly Rx filled but was told insurance company cancelled it on 9- 26. I call insurance - oh no they do not do that. Insurance company calls pharmacy at Walmart- oh she has no more re fills --- yet the label clearly states 3 more refills. Plus Walmart does not recognize their very own Rx nbr? Spent an hour on this and I am not happy.
Then I try several times to log in on their website and keep getting redirected to their privacy site.
Now will have to call doctors office Monday and explain all this mess and have them send new Rx - to which I am almost out of this inhaler. I was going to have it mailed since 55 miles is too far one way just for rx. I am beyond hacked off.

Can you get the scripts on a "by mail" autorefill so you don't have to worry about such things? I know some pharmacies are having trouble getting some meds due to China issues and pharmacists are rebelling, as their time is being taken doing vaccines so they don't have time to refill prescriptions. I think CVS just had a partial walk-out of pharmacists due to the vaccine issues. I don't think an insurance company will cancel an existing prescription without notifying the patient, at leas tI have never heard of such a thing. Sometimes insurance will have contract issues with the payment systems, but they will notify you far in advance when that happens to allow you to find other options. Can you use a different pharmacy?

I think that quite a few of the medicare insurance companies do hae their own pharmacies now. Our Humana has Centerwell Pharmacy, and they send out all of my meds and if I run out of refills, they contact the doctor and get a new prescription .
Also, (and I have not checked this out) Amazon is advertising a mail-order pharmacy, which they said can save you money; so this is something that you might want to check out also, @Hedi Mitchell .
Here is the link for more info.

Here's my rant. It's kind of petty, but what can I say? :D

I ordered groceries for delivery and they came on time today. The delivery person was an older woman who seemed annoyed by her lot in life, but that's not my problem. She put a couple of bags on the porch and I opened the door to retrieve them, when she sternly advised me to "Leave those! I'm supposed to take a picture of them."

Um, what? Lady, it's cold and raining, and you are moving slower than a tectonic plate. So I stood there thinking about my ice cream defrosting while she shuffled back and forth. I finally yelled at my husband to assist, since they had bottled water on sale and I had ordered three cases. o_O Plus I wanted to be done with this before Monday.

So he went out to help, opened the garage door to put the cases of water (and beer :D) in there. Well, Crabby Appleton snapped at him to put the water on the porch so it would "be in the picture." I must say, that was the last straw and he started gathering up all the bags and unceremoniously toted them to the kitchen. He told her in no uncertain terms that we have paid for the groceries and since they are on our porch we will do as we see fit with them. I didn't hear the rest of their exchange and it's probably just as well.

When I got the text confirming my grocery delivery, she had added a picture of our driveway and address, which I suppose was sufficient proof that she had been here.

My rant is I just dropped $4,000 to get my truck fixed and only got 1 mile from the dealership yesterday before it started having the exact same issue. I'm not sure they're gonna be able to fix it properly. I put $3,000 into it last year for brakes, rotors, front end work, etc.

I got a follow-up Customer Service call this afternoon and the girl sounded genuinely shocked at my story and is gonna pass it on to management, for what that's worth. I really need a truck, but prices these days are through the roof ($25,000 for some used trucks with over 100,000 miles on it.) If used trucks were not so expensive, I might not have tried fixing mine and would have replaced it.

Now I gotta decided how much more money to shovel in this hole, depending on what the dealer thinks (and can do for me.)

Ugh. I really hate frustrating, expensive stuff. And I hear ya on the price of vehicles--just ridiculous.

And you should feel bad for molesting a delivery person like that ;)
Most of those stories are about drivers giving grief to customers.

@John Brunner, how old is you truck? Here is something to think about. Quit putting money in the dealer's pocket and try trusting a mechanic that's been in the business long enough to know the change that's taken place in the maintenance of vehicles.

In my opinion today's mechanics are focused on vehicles 5 years old or less because they are trained that way.

You are soooooo right. I never go to a dealer because they overcharge for their shiney repair areas. although finding a trusted mechanic can be difficult depending on where you live.

My truck is a 2005. The problem is a weird one, and likely electrical in nature.

I went to a couple of regular mechanics in the past for a continuous battery drain problem, and they told me it was a bad radio. Well, the problem is actually with the security system (that is always turned on), and is part of the radio. There's nothing wrong with the radio.

This same dealer once traced that battery drain to the electric window/door control panel in the driver's arm rest. I don't think anyone other than a dealer is gonna be able to fix this. I hope it's not in the wiring, but it does not make sense to me that it could be.

I've been spoiled. My younger brother owned his own repair shop. He was a mechanic from his mid teens until he died at age 60.

The Mazda dealer has been very reasonable for the routine stuff.
The GM dealer is a little pricey, but I've not had to pay an independent mechanic to diagnose anything like this.

You need to get rid of the security system, really you do. Seriously, is the security system as old as the truck? Does it alert you or a service in the instance of a medical emergency? Are you paying for it or own it outright? What about theft? Can you use one of these anti-theft locks just $69.00+ tax on Amazon?

The security system is built in to the truck. It comes from the factory that way...it was not an option. That's the problem I am having. If the truck thinks it has been hot wired, it shuts off the gas. So I'm driving down the road, the security system icon on the dash lights up, and it cuts off the gas.

I don't think it can be disabled by some computer adjustment. I know I can't turn it off. If either of those two things were possible, it would fix the problem,,,but it would also mean the system could be defeated, so I don't think either of those two things is possible.
