As bad as crickets are to eat, there is worse. I can’t remember what website I was looking at anymore, but one of the advertisements on it was from someplace like Egypt or Saudi Arabia, and it was for their specially grown cockroaches ! ! And, yes, it was to buy them to make food out of them. I should have got a screenshot, because it was pretty horrifying.
Worse than that. When my daughter was in high school, I believed the eye guy that she had to wear them and get used to them (making it her fault, as it were) and I made her do it only to have to go back to have them redone.
My brother told me that fried grasshoppers tasted like bacon. He had bought a can when we were kids. But then, he was my brother and you could not believe a thing he said.
Everything taste like either bacon or chicken according to the tricksters. Grasshopper, crickets, cockroaches, etc., taste like both bacon and chicken if fried in bacon fried chicken grease.
I once unknowingly until I finished it ate chocolate covered bee. A co-worker Brought in a box of chocolates, That looks like you're standing off the shelf box of chocolate, Instead each chocolate piece was insect covered in chocolate. My first impression was It tasted Something similar to nestle's crunch or chocolate covered rice krispies, It was very crunchy. After eating it I buzzed off.
yeh? I just heard a caution about eating bugs. They contain parasites to and might be able to infect humans who eat them
I have eaten a number of insects over the years, but I knew I was doing it and it was may choice to do so. If they want to market "cricketburgers" and such, so be it, but it should be listed as an ingredient and folks who eat them should be aware of what they are doing. I am especially concerned that there are reports of people with shellfish allergies reacting to insects in food.
I saw a woman in the tropics netting mosquitoes. You could probably do it in Alaska too, from what I've heard. Anyway she netted a very substantial amount of them and pushed them down to the bottom corner of the net, squished them into a ball, more or less, and then into a pattie which she cooked and ate. I was a little turned off by this. Maybe because of the blood in mosquitoes? but if they were buzzing her, maybe they were still just looking for a meal too.
I'm tired. We had a very nice Thanksgiving at my husband's sister's house. Three of our kids, their spouses, and some grandkids were there, among others... so a nice noisy crowd. Lots of laughs and good food. Our oldest grandson surprised us by showing up at our house yesterday evening; he had been to his other grandparent's and decided to come by here before he headed home. That was the perfect end to a great day. Today we met our oldest daughter and SIL at my recently deceased mother-in-law's house. They were picking up the John Deere zero-turn lawnmower and a small trailer. We also went through the entire house to see if there were other things they might want or use. I ended up bringing home a few more odds and ends, including three Earth Boxes. They have houseplants in them, but I'll be cleaning them out to use for vegetable plants next spring. Weird that I was considering buying some of those from the Black Friday sale, so I'm glad I didn't. My daughter cut about 3" off my hair and it looks so much better. It was getting pretty "stringy", as my mother used to say. So it's a little longer than chin length now. Daughter and SIL headed over to have dinner with our son and we came home. It was good to get to spend the day with them since they will be in Germany for 3 weeks over Christmas and we won't see them then. (Their oldest son is active duty Air Force and stationed there.) We stopped on the way home and picked up burgers since it has been a long day. I took a shower and now I'm headed to get a cup of coffee and a piece of cake.
I am just now doing the last of the dishes. I keep snacking on leftovers and commented to hubby that they won't last long this year as the kids took their share home. I used to make a second Thanksgiving to have leftovers. But I think I will wait till Christmas. I got my first Christmas card already, yesterday.
Sure I have said before- but- if you knew what was really in the food we buy- you would be real skinny by now, I try not to think about it. However to eat an insect or other beastie -gonna save that for when the real food is all gone. Call survival.
@Beth Gallagher It sounds like you had a great day. I think the greatness of a day, at our age, is judged by how tired we are afterward. Have you ever tried the the Brilliant Contours therapy bra? I have a chance to buy an unused one at a 1/3th the price. I am not sure it would help my edema that decided to flare up under my right arm. My other compression tops and sleeves don't seem to help it anymore.
