There is a comment on the OXO product Beth recommended where the guy tried 4 different products for his parents, who are arthritic. While they all did the job in removing stubborn lids, for those with weak hands he recommended the under-the-cabinet product that Hedi posted here. That particular product allows you to use the combined strength of both hands to twist the jar, as opposed to all others where you hold the jar with one [weak] hand and try to unscrew the lid with the other [weak] hand.

    He tested:
-The under cabinet "both hands" unit Hedi posted.
-The OXO unit Beth posted above.
-The unit Kate posted here. Kate said it slips, and that reviewer said there are lids it won't fit.
-A ratchet-type device no one's posted yet (not currently available.)

I use a small screwdriver to pry up the edges and release the vacuum. Then the lids twist off easily.

Taping small firecrackers to the bottom of the lid might work well, too. It would certainly be more exciting than some of the other options.

Rachael Ray turns the jars upside-down and slaps the top straight down on the countertop to loosen the lid (being careful to not break the glass.)

"Some guy" in a video turned the jar upside-down and punched it on the bottom with the pad of his hand (akin to the way you'd force ketchup from a bottle.) He said this depressurizes the jar and slams the contents against the lid from the inside, both helping to break the seal.

I saw the one that you mount under the counter on Amazon mentioned by a couple, and it just didn't seem it would work since it has no gripping device that you attach so I wrote it off, but since it has been tried and approved by certified SOC testers, I'll probably spring for that one.

The Amazon ones seem to be in sets, so they might include a range of sizes.

If you're near a Walmart, you could go look at what they have.

In our house, the jar opener is called Bobby and Bobby doesn’t have any tools that aren’t multi-functional. If skimming across the edge of the lid in a counter-clockwise direction with the back of a chef’s knife doesn’t work, then I resort to a non-digital, fine adjustment metric tool.

They open any jar or bottle, can help fix the leak under the sink and in a pinch, be used to smack some sense into a would be thief who might enter one’s home unannounced.
And, do note that these fine tools convert from metric to sae in an instant.

Attn. Wives: Every husband would love to have a new set of these fine metric / sae tools for Christmas.
