I disagree. The Jews were in Israel long before "The Exodus" from Egypt. If we believe in Abraham, he predated the slavery in Egypt and lived in what we call The Holy land.

In my opinion, the Jews have suffered much, much more than any people in the history of the entire world. Slavery in Babylon, Slavery in Egypt, conquered by the Romans and scattered across the known world, persecution at the hands of Spanish Catholics (the Inquisition) and persecution at the hands of the Catholic church in Rome, persecution at the hands of Christian sects in Europe for 2,000 years, beginning in the 5th century A.D. they were slaughtered by the Muslims under the leadership of Mohamad, the murder of 6 million Jews during the Holocaust, and at the end of WW2, when survivors of the Holocaust tried to return the the Holy Land, the British, who had control of Palestine, intercepted them at sea and put them in concentration camps on Crete. AND they were murdered by Arabic peoples long, long before the new State of Israel. As far back in history a you care to go, we can find hundreds of cases of Jews being murdered by nearly every group you can think of. If that is not enough, we saw the most recent case of the slaughter of 1,200 at the hands of Hamas on Oct 7th. Enough is enough. If I was young and strong again, I'd go to Israel and volunteer to help rebuild destroyed homes in Kibbutz's

We disagree on a lot of things @Richard Whiting, but that is fine as that is the basis for discussion. Abraham is also taken as the ancestor of the Arabs, so how does that affect your thinking? The Hebrews as an ethnic group existed before the Exodus, but as a religious group they probably did not. Although Joseph and his clan had monotheistic leanings, they were not a solid religious group as there is talk of pagan tendencies even within the "edited" writing of the books of Moses.

I don't disagree that the Jews have suffered more persecution that any group in the West at least, and that was some of the reason Israel was created by the UN after WWII, but the Palestinians still had their homes confiscated by the occupying powers in that area and given to another group. The Arabs had conquered the area around the end of the first millennium, so their families have "owned" the land since then, and the transfer of the ownership had to generate resentment.

As an aside, I don't think the Romans persecuted the Jews much until they rebelled against them. The Romans, not ones to tolerate rebellion, then created the Diaspora to prevent it form happening again.

The alleged fact that Abraham is the father of two ethnic/religious groups does not alter my mind. My point was only that the Hebrews lived in that land long before the Hebrews were taken a slaves into Egypt. Thus, at least in my mind, the Jews have a rightful claim to the land.

As you pointed out, the Arabs conquered "Palestine" around the end of the 1st millennium and IMO that makes them relative "new comers" when compared to the Hebrews. The whole point of the crusades was the recovery of Christian access to Christian holy sites which the Arabs had been denying to Christians.

One thing many people forget is that some Jews never left the Holy Land and have lived there since the time of Abraham. Yes, many were scattered, but some can trace their roots back in Israel for thousands of years.

Arabs have no problem conquering new lands and then claiming "ownership", but when the reverse happens and THEY are conquered they declare Holy War/Jihad saying that "their land" has been stolen.

I don't know what percentage of the earth is controlled by Muslims , but it's a sizable chunk. The Muslims control all of northern Africa, some of central Africa, 99.5 % of the Middle East, and a large chunk of Southwestern Asia and are making significant inroads in Europe. The Jews, on the other hand, control only the tiniest fraction of what the Muslims control. That fact alone convinces me that they have an absolute right to exist right where they are.

If the Arabs ever gain control of Israel... Europe better watch out, cause they're next.

Missiles and drones from Yemen are firing on merchant ship transiting the Red Sea in an apparent effort to close the Suez Canal. Several ships have been hit and one is supposedly in danger of sinking. The U.S. destroyer patrolling the area is the only vessel attempting defense although there are three Chinese naval vessels in the area. One of the ships hit was owned by a British company, but the Brits have no ships in the area. Insurance companies are raising the rates or refusing to insure ships in the area, so that may in effect close the canal. The Chinese-operated Panama Canal is having the water problems and traffic passing through that canal is down to less than half normal rates. We will soon be back to the 18th century with sea traffic rounding both Cape Horn and Cape of Good Hope. Talk about supply chain issues!

I don't know how long this will be tolerated. Israel has hinted at attacking Yemen with naval forces, but that may bring Iran in directly as the Houthis, who apparently control Yemen are proxies of Iran. The Suez issue will affect Europe much more than the U.S., but apparently the U.S. is expected to defend their supply chain while the European vessels remain largely in port. It reminds me of our first war with the Barbary Pirates in which the U.S. fought the war with the pirates while the European nations paid off the pirates to keep their vessels safe.

Abraham being the father of both the Jewish people as well as the Moslem religion is not an alleged thing, it is a fact of history and explained in the Holy Bible, @Richard Whiting .
Abraham and Sarah did not have any children, so Sarah told Abraham to have a child with her servant, Hagar, and Ishmael was the result of that union.
Then, Sarah, who was the actual wife, became pregnant and had Isaac, who was the designated heir of Abraham.

Sarah did not like the attitude of Hagar and Ishmael, so Abraham sent them away, and it is from Ishmael that the people came who became the first Muslim religion; while the Jewish people came from Abraham through Isaac.
The story is in the Bible, and @Bobby Cole can probably explain it even better than I did, if you wish to know more.

Yep, the Chinese got rights to both ends of the Canal after Carter turned it over to the Panamanians. The Chinese effectively control the Panama Canal and can shut it off whenever they choose simply by not allowing ships to enter. They don't own Panama obviously, but they quickly realized even in the 1970's that the U.S. is quite dependent on the Canal and can't move military ships ocean to ocean easily without access to it. A really dumb move by Jimmy Carter; one of many.

The Panama Canal is a very long way from Chinese military assets... obviously. If they ever tried to stop a free flow of shipping traffic the U.S. Navy would immediately take control. Not something to worry about.

I don't know what the **** the U.N. is up to. One heck of a lot of anti-Semitic talk. Seems like they are extremely supportive of Hamas, and all of that talk about how Israel is committing war crimes and the likelihood of Netanyahu being tried as a war criminal. The implication is that Israel does NOT have right to defend itself. How in the world is Israel supposed to destroy Hamas without harming civilians?

It depends on who is in the Oval Office and if doing so would be considered to be an act of war to the international community.

To be sure, everything the Chinese has and does should be seen to have military implications.
Arkansas is the first state to do so and just forced Chinese based companies to sell or give up all the property it owns in that state.

To be doubly sure, the Chinese do have vested interests in Gaza so there’s that too.

I agree that everything China does has military implications. But, I'm unaware of any Chinese vested interests in Gaza except to make the U.S. look even worse in the eyes of Arabic nations.

China doesn't think of the "short term". They think decades ahead. Not to change the topic of this thread, but China has long term plans to control the South China Sea. (building military bases on coral reefs in international waters).

As far as I know, the Chinese only have port operations in Panama, but those could quickly become military if the need arose. The PRC also has a base in Djibouti on the Horn of Africa, which is listed as a military support base for Chinese military ships watching the Suez traffic. China could close both canals if they chose, although Suez would be more difficult unless mines were uses in both places. The U.S. could drive them out of Panama, but it might involve the destruction of the canal, which would be counterproductive.

I am sure that everyone has seen all of the pro-Palestinian marches and demonstrations on U.S. campuses, chatting "From the river to the sea" and Intifada. I never would have imagined that such a thing was possible on American campuses. Perhaps even more shameful is that university presidents are doing absolutely nothing about it. No expulsions that I'm aware of. It reminds me of 1930's Nazi Germany.

The Brits have finally sent their navy into the fray in a big way. Ships from the UK are heading for the Suez area and the Black Sea. They are also performing support functions for the Baltic and the Gulf of Finland. Sweden is also performing patrol duties in the Baltic area.

True but even though the Deans and Presidents aren’t condemning the movement, many of the students who have signed their name anywhere in support of Hamas won’t be getting those high paying jobs they are going to University and College to get.
Some major law firms have already said that they won’t be giving positions to Harvard and Yale graduates who back the Hamas attacks.
