Someone I listen to recommended against signing up for funeral arrangements as the company may or may not be around when you leave. But my SIL is in the business and is trying to sign everyone up.
I signed up with a company about 15+ yrs ago and I was 70 or so, and paid nothing, only signed up, and they are gone and now I'm 85+, and closer to checking out. That 850 is going to be more down the road and what if one goes by bye in their sleep, who is responsible, the spouse if in the picture, otherwise many are alone. It's the insurance game, one can pay all their lives and NEVER use the insurance. I did that for auto, but never had apt insurance...when I owned a property yes, but not as a renter.....
Yeh, that's one of those funny things that you gotta have, you resent paying for nothing except "In Case Of...", but you don't really want to have to use. I, too, worry about prepaying for my funeral and not having anyone around to enforce the contract. I asked for advice on who to use and was told to avoid the funeral home in this county if there was no one left to worry about my best interests, and to use the one the next county north of us.
My inlaws prepaid their funerals years ago...many years ago. The funeral home where they prepaid was sold to one of those national chains, but when it came time for their services the policies were honored with no problem. They did try to "upsell" us on crap so we ordered beverages and finger foods for the wake since everything else was paid for.
Yeh, but you were there to represent her. I heard that the funeral home in the county could be pretty shady if there were no relatives to provide oversight. I guess this is the sign of a dedicated worrier. I'm concerned over what's gonna happen when I'm dead.
I wonder if there is a charity that you will leave all your worldly whatever. Give them a copy of your will and maybe they could see to your disposal, uh, burial.
I've thought of leaving my property to one or two of the children's hospitals, since I have no kids (just greedy siblings.) But I don't think I'd burden them with my mortal remains. Maybe I could bequeath myself to a western tourist town.
My grandson is thinking of so many t ypes of business he can go into, one is used stuff from homes estates, etc. he can have all my stuff, there is some good solid furtniture that I've had for years and just does not wear out.....I hope my paintings, that are left, do NOT end up inn the alley.
I actually had that business and went to the Missouri Auction school to be able to get rid of leftovers. I helped a friend set up an antique mall and had a booth in it and did flea markets. Sadly the bottom fell out a few years ago, around when Obama got elected. No one wants old stuff any more.
I may have mentioned this but can'f find it...so I'll do a brief update on "it's working"... MD came to visit me on Dec 7, 2023 for a 30 minute Visit.... All went good, she is a cardiologist and geretic MD. Then in last few weeks I had my BP med reflills done by her team and also the Thyroid Refill and that went good. My two helpers who do this for me picked up the 3 month supply of both and the year of refills on both...... Now today, a nurse came to draw blood, she was here for 5 minutes and now will get the results to the doctor and doc will be seeing me again in 3 weeks to go over the labs.... I was very skeptical but so far it's Working.... I don't know if this is nationwide but if anyone wants to check for t his in your area do the search to find out.... Oh and Medicare pays for this service. j m
I can remember when I was a child doctors would make house calls. As the years went on it was harder and harder to see a doctor. Now I live in a third world country and I have doctors making hose calls again. Fact if my wife calls a doctor and tells him that we have a problem he will show up check everyone bring what he thinks we might need and leaves. Normally I will stop him and give him some money for his response. One day I was sick my wife call him he came took blood and when to the lab got the results came back to the house with the medicine. I think I gave him about $40 and he was very happy.
