One commentator I listened to opined that DeSantis actually won the debate, as he didn't do anything stupid to harm himself. Christie is the loser in every respect, and Haley and Ramaswamy both contradicted earlier positions they had stated without acknowledging it, e.g., "I once thought this but have changed my mind" would have given Ramaswamy the edge.
I don't have any interest in the debates; just a bunch of yelling and tired repetitious talking points. I wonder why they bother since Trump is obviously going to be the nominee. I would not vote for Haley or Rama-lama-dingdong.
I think the establishment Republicans hope Trump can somehow be disqualified and they need someone to step into the gap for them. If that happens, a new party will be created and the Republicans, like the Whigs they replaced will just fade away. The Dems may also crash over the Biden candidacy as they the original Democratic Republicans did over the Jackson presidency. They were replaced by the pro-slavery Democratic Party. Who knows?
Ken, I have watched all the debates and now have seen enough to decide who to vote for. In my opinion, Vivek Ramaswamy is head and shoulders above the others. This was the best of the Republican debates and I think Vivek spoke honestly and frankly about what he would do as president. Like Trump, he talked about what was wrong in our country and how he would fix it with sweeping changes in the various government departments. I like his controversial ideas and I think he is smart enough to adjust as needed to become a great president if elected. However, Trump is likely to be the presidential candidate and I will vote for him. I hope that he chooses Vivek as his vice-presidential candidate. I believe they would make the world a better place than it is right now. If something prevents Trump from being the presidential candidate, I hope the Republican Party chooses Vivek as the presidential candidate.
Ramaswampy raises my little spiddey senses. He's a little too polished, like a snake oil salesman. He says all the right things, but a politician will say anything when he is running.
I was looking at some polls this morning and one of them had 67% of those polled said that Trump won the debate.
Christie admitted as much when questioned by Meghan Kelly. She told him he was irrelevant and he claimed he was the only one running against Trump. The rest were running against each other and not against the one most likely to get the nomination. In other words, he thought they should all be denouncing Trump and not attacking the others on the stage. Perhaps that was what was supposed to happen.
I've been giving some thought to what Ramaswampy is saying. He is saying the same things President Trump says. I think he is auditioning to be President Trump's running mate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Could be. He says what’s on his mind and doesn’t seem to cater to the media. Same as Trump. The guy is a businessman and this is his first real push into politics. Same as Trump in the 2016 election. He’s smart…..like Trump. And….give the guy another 50 million and he’ll be a billionaire. Fewer billions than Trump but still a billionaire. Dunno if he plays golf or likes cheeseburgers and diet coke though.
I think he is advocating what he knows resonates with people. He may also have arrived at his thoughts, as Trump did, through experiencing the world and making a success of his life.
But he has been known to change his mind. I think we can rule out Christie and Haley, but I suspect the statement was directed at those who wanted him to choose DeSantis. I am still rooting for the Governor of South Dakota, a tough woman with (I think) Native American heritage and a strong spine that kept her upright when she was making decisions she felt were best for her state despite Federal pressure to the contrary. She is and always has been a strong Trump supporter as well.
You’re probably right but since Ramey (easier to spell) isn’t really the top dog in the debates, or so the polls say, Trump could change his mind. On the other hand, even with the difference in age and business ventures, Ramey and Trump might be too much alike so far as their strong points and might wind up at each other’s throats. The bottom line this time is that Trump has to pick someone who can actually BE the President of the Senate and take charge. Don’t know who that would be but it is something he has to do. Given that Ramey isn’t afraid to fight, maybe Trump should give ‘im a think through.
I love Noem but she pledged to her state that her constituents are the most important to her and she wasn’t looking for any outside endeavors. Time will tell.
