There are extremes between aversion and non-aversion.
A very close lady friend (now passed) of @Yvonne Smith had a husband who not only planned his funeral but made his own casket. I think he had planned to build her’s as well but I don’t believe he got around to it before he died.
Somehow I just can’t get it out of my head the picture of a garage with a pick-up truck and two empty caskets awaiting to be filled sitting in it. Kinda creepy.

I have actually thought about building our cremation boxes or urns but to me, that would mean taking just one more step toward admitting my own mortality.
Do note that I’m not afraid of the inevitable and in one or two ways do look forward to it but I’m not willing to rush things.

We never had the board game "Life" when I was a kid, nor have I ever played it. Your comment makes me wonder exactly how it ends, and if there are pics of coffins on a final square.

My ex sister in law works at a funeral home. All of a sudden she was freaking out that my older brother had not make plans. As with all of his syblings, he asked what his kids wanted/thought. Crickets. I know he and I don't give a rip. I put a full grown sheep in the manure pile and watched it's physical passing as critters kept digging it up. It really wasn't too bad. Not sure my kids would want to keep reburying me, but...
My sister probably wants a big funeral and can afford it and my other brother will just let his family deal with it. No, he probably has written down the arrangements. He's the good one.o_O

That would be poetic justice...to have the crap full of me for a change.

I'm in the process of locating cremation places and fees...On the fence about prepaying for this fee, maybe just let my daughter take care of this....

I know what you mean. My understanding is that you can buy a prepaid plan that is valid at most (all?) funeral homes, so you don't run the risk of a place going out of business. I have friends who purchased such a plan when they were living in Vermont, and it is valid in Virginia.

So far the lowest price cremation in my town is $695

    Our Cremation Packages Include
    • Transportation of the deceased to the crematory
    • Obtaining certified copies of death certificate
    • Obtaining cremation approval from the medical examiner
    • Assistance in filing for VA benefits and insurance policies
    • Social security administration forms completed
    • Alternative container (The container the body is cremated in)
    • Rigid container (For the return of the cremated remains)

Just talking to the fellow in my bldg who helps me a lot, and we openly talk about it all, he believes MORE die without any death directions......it's all taken care of.

Did you ask them what happens should they go out of business? (If they can talk about our death, then we can talk about their business failure.) I wonder if the services are transferable, as many prepaid funeral plans are. And while $700 is not chump change, it would not be an irrecoverable loss (you & I would be at the end of the line of creditors to squeeze any money out of them.) The likelihood of them going out of business is not that great, and you would hear about it in time to make other arrangements.

Gotcha. That seems like a very reasonable price.

Last time I checked, that was about the best price here too. I went to a 'viewing' recently at a funeral home of an urn and a few red carnations (paid for by a friend) and it was more like $1800!!!

Well, I just talked to the person at the $650 fee and that fee is not for my area, and she's talking like $1500 or thereabouts....sounds like a switch and bait to me....Scratching them off my list. Now back to the $850 place and they are telling me add $125 if my remains are from my home, if from hospital or rehab no extra 125.. they have their angles...

I just wonder how a dead person's body is handled if they are found and no finance info is available. Who handles this?
