I kid you not...many years ago just as face piercing had begun, there was a very young female in the grocery store who was being followed by I assume is a boyfriend. In his nose was a very large ring,like a bull ring. I was amazed. The things people do.
Maybe they guy's neighbor was trying to stop his rooting under the fence. Or perhaps he was being weaned. (Since it's the holiday season, I shant discuss the possibility that the girlfriend installed it to enforce compliance, but if he was stupid enough to get the ring installed in the first place, he was already submissive enough.) Another thing I don't understand are the guys who install whatever-it-is that creates a large hole in their ear lobes. When I was a kid, Popular Mechanics had some great how-to stuff in it. I never viewed National Geographic in that light.
Actually, Hedi, we've also seen almost the same size of ring in young folks. I know that native tribes in Africa and the Amazon would put either a large ring in their nose or stick thru their nose, but that was them. My theory is, these young people just want to be noticed. We have never seen, but doesn't mean there isn't any, farm, ranch or rodeo kids that do this stuff.
WebMD has an article on caring for holes-in-lobes, and says "Ear stretching can be a fun way to decorate your body..." It makes it sound as though permanent body modifications are the adult equivalent of coloring books. "Ear stretching can be a fun activity on a rainy afternoon." Their article on nose piercing makes no mention of motives or benefits.

The Rest, which will probably be more than one post: Jobs I’ve had, after my Honorable Discharge out of the Navy: 1974, working in the horse stable area for Knott's Berry Farm Stagecoach Ride. First time I'd ever dressed western and I really liked it. Probably a prelude to rodeo. LOL Ambulance Attendant/Driver for three different ambulance companies. Got Certified in Advance First Aid/EMT Training (OJT again). OJT job working for a motorhome blinds/curtain manufacturer in their Shipping/Receiving area. I had clerical experience from the Navy, so that definitely helped. Unfortunately, my first wife worked for the same company in Assembly. Drill Press/Machine Shop Company. Ran Drill Press and used a steel cutting machine. Was just too dirty/greasy/oily of a job for me! IOW, “Bye”. Part-time jobs: Working for a Riding Stables as a Horseback Trail Guide in a rather large Regional Park. Working, on Sale Day, at a Livestock Auction just south of Weatherford, Oklahoma. At this time, I was doing some traveling and got the job, but ended up heading back to So California. Once back in So California, I got a job work as a Stockroom Clerk for an electronics manufacturer. Pretty much another OJT job, but learned a whole lot about electronic parts for the four years I worked for Bell & Howell's COM (Computer Output Microfilm) Division. Got fired from this job, but my Supervisor listed me as "Laid-Off", so, Unemployment Officer I headed. Stockroom Supervisor for another Electronics Manufacturer (medical/industrial lasers). Shipping/Receiving and Purchasing Asst. for an Engineering Company. Had taken a night college course in Purchasing, so just a little OJT was needed. After a year/half, decided to travel again and left this company. Once back to So California from traveling, got job working for a Calibration Lab in their Shipping/Receiving area. Last job/4 years, Materials Coordinator/Buyer Asst./Inventory Control for a Senior Healthcare Company. Had my own office and I loved it! Started using a computer in 1986, when I worked for the laser company. Already had experience using a keyboard from taking 3 years of typing in high school and Navy work. Learning to use a computer came extremely natural for me! Used different Accounting type software for manufacturing and purchasing, as well as computers for Shipping/Receiving. IOW, I got along great with computer/desk work!

Now, Marriages/Children: First marriage lasted 1 year. That one resulted in an Annulment. Was working in EMS, which wasn't called that in the mid 70's. She was working at a Hyatt House as a restaurant Host at night. I had stopped in for some something, she seen my uniform and that was "all she wrote". It was instant love, or should I say, instant attraction. She fell in love with the uniform and I fell in love with her looks. Neither worked out (LOL). She came from a very Upper Class family and lived in a very Upper Class neighborhood. Neither of those were me. This was the lady that got a job, in Assembly, for the same shades/curtains motorhome manufacturer that I got hired to work in Shipping/Receiving (that I listed in my Employment posting). After I had left the company, she was seeing her supervisor and got pregnant. Somehow found out where I worked at next (Drill Press/Machining Company) and paid me a visit there. Went to my new apartment and she told me she was pregnant, but I already knew she had been sleeping with her supervisor. I told her about getting a blood test and she stormed out of my apartment. Wound up getting an abortion. Well, believe it or not, later on, we wound up getting back together again and re-married. By this time, she was pregnant again and I knew it was mine. This marriage lasted a year and a half and ended in divorce. While I was at work, she had met another guy who owned his own pottery business. A few times after I got off of work and got home, she told me that she was going to her mom's place, whereas she was going to see this guy. Unfortunately, at the time, her mom and dad were going thru a divorce as well. Dear old dad wasn't that faithful to her mom. He was a top-notch Executive and had met/moved in with an Airline Stewardess. Anyway, things got somewhat messy between dear "ex" and I and I just plainly "gave up" on her and seeing my daughter. The "ex" ended up meeting/marrying a Marine who is now retired and my daughter has had numerous problems with her mom (my "ex") and now has an older son of her own. Daughter has a Facebook page, but very seldom uses it. The "ex" had one, but no longer is part of it. So, for the next 22 years I was divorced/single and hated being single. Looked and looked and looked, but not a single lady fit what I wanted. Finally, in 2000, I placed a Personal Ad in a local magazine, explaining my looks, likes/dislikes, etc. and my (now) wife answered the Ad. Lived together for a year, but she was wearing an engagement ring. In March 2001, we married. We've had a few "ups and downs", but all-in-all, she's a wonderful Christian lady and we are totally in love with each other. She loves professional rodeo, like I did when was a contestant and still do now as a non-contestant. I taught her how to shoot and she loves target shooting. Any questions, please don't ask! Only kidding! LOL
Cody, you have led a very interesting life. My question is.... how did you get such a pretty lady to marry you?
Well, she'd had actually placed her own Personal Ad in local magazine sometime before I placed mine, but I never seen hers. She stated that she was looking for "a cowboy with a boat". See, during her high school years, her family had a lake cottage and a ski boat. Her and her brother were at the cottage quite a bit on summer weekends. During those times, her older sister was either around church friends or in church. So, anyway, the word "cowboy" definitely wasn't popular in Costa Mesa, California. I knew about boats from being in the Navy, so that helped out a lot.
Everyone here pretty much knows our "likes and dislikes", so no reason to add them in. So, now will start the "updates", which is more easier to read/reply to than a book like I've been doing. First, went to Cowboy Christmas (Gift Show) at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Went to it three times and should've only went once! From previous years we've gone to this, it has become, to a point, very, very "glitzy". Just what do I mean? I called it "Urban Cowboy/Cowgirl Meets The NFR (National Finals Rodeo)" Lots of booths of flashy jewelry, flashy boots and young ladies very fancy blouses. IOW, most everything for ladies that you'd find at Billy Bob's Nightclub in Dallas, Texas or any other nightclub. There were some "down to earth" clothes, but most of the young ladies shopping there wanted the "glitz" and that's what they got. Sort of like trophy wives/girlfriends out to impress or buying stuff to impress. The young guys didn't look that way at all. 99% of the young ladies were on the first floor where all of the "glitz" was. The second floor seemed to be more older ladies, like my wife, and was mostly outdoor related stuff, like target shooting, hunting, fishing, camping and hiking. We enjoyed the second floor much more than the first floor. Unfortunately, I caught a "bug" somewhere. Even though we both got the Senior Double-Dose Flu Shot and the last recommended Covid 19 Booster, I caught something and my wife now shares it. We had plans, and she took off last Thursday/Friday, unpaid of course, to go to Buffets and Contestant Autograph Sessions, but just couldn't go. Then, come Saturday, I was feeling better, so we hit the South Point Hotel/Casino Garden Brunch. After that, went back to Cowboy Christmas, their last day to be open, and we shouldn't have! Lots of people and way too much walking (again). Whatever we got, here it is Thursday December 21 and we are still battling it. Good thing, no fever and very little coughing. Perhaps a light case of Covid? Don't know. Sort of like a Roller-Coaster ride.........feel good-go-great, then back to feeling sort of crappy.
New Avatar! This is from 2000, not too long after I sold my "heading" horse, Red and ended my rodeo Team Roping days. The vehicle was my wife's old Toyota 4-Runner, the toy stuffed Huskie was named Nanook that we had before getting a real Huskie. The rope, of which I still have, was one of my "heading" ropes from Classic Rope Company. Actually, I have another Classic "heading" rope that hangs on our wall to remind me of those "good ol' days in the arena". Next Avatar will be me sitting in an arena riding Red to get him warmed up. My guardian parents (step-parents) were so stunned when they found out that I was a horse owner and had become involved with rodeo. Guess not many former hog farmers change like that (rodeo). However, I had a neighbor farmer that left the family farm and became a lawyer. Never returned to the family farm that his brother still runs.
