Was there mention of those being company-run dealerships? I wonder if goofy state laws might get in the way of GM doing that. ps: Take THAT you lithium-sucking idiots!!!!!!
It didn't indicate whether the dealerships were company-run, but I assume they are franchises or why would be company be buying them out? Apparently Cadillac went through a similar program in 2020 and 20% of Cadillac dealers took the buyout offer.
My daughter, who owns a Tesla, was rear-ended by a person who was on their phone. It was well documented by the Tesla's many cameras. She said even the Tesla dealership has trouble repairing the monsters, so she was sent to an independent repair shop--apparently one of the few, or perhaps the only one--who is capable of doing body work on these sensor-laden beasts. She said there were over 90 vehicles ahead of her to be repaired and they cannot get to hers before April 2024, so she cannot use the rear hatchback or one rear door until sometime in April, as they won't close if she gets them open. Isn't green technology wonderful.
More "good news" for EV owners. https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/no-one-wants-used-evs-050011036.html No One Wants Used EVs, Making New Ones a Tougher Sell Too (Bloomberg) -- The shift away from cars with dirty combustion engines is running into a new hurdle: Drivers don’t want to buy used electric vehicles, and that’s undermining the market for new ones, too. In the $1.2 trillion secondhand market, prices for battery-powered cars are falling faster than for their combustion-engine cousins. Buyers are shunning them due to a lack of subsidies, a desire to wait for better technology and continued shortfalls in charging infrastructures.
And this... https://www.yahoo.com/tech/gm-stops-chevy-blazer-ev-140338694.html GM stops Chevy Blazer EV sales after early software problems General Motors has temporarily halted sales of the brand new Chevy Blazer EV after some of the first vehicles shipped encountered a number of software problems. The automaker told TechCrunch that owners are experiencing problems with the SUV's screens, and with charging at DC Fast stations, confirming earlier reports from journalists who had access to review vehicles. GM said its engineering teams are "working around the clock" toward a solution and that when it has one ready, Blazer EV owners will have to bring their vehicles to a dealership for a software update.
Some of the less thoughtful truck owners among us have realized that the additional 35% weight added by batteries kinda takes the edge off of the off-road joy. That ground better be dry, hard and firm, baby...preferably black with lines painted down the middle.
As Maine bureaucrats prepared to vote on a ‘sweeping EV mandate’ an act of God weather event struck, creating widespread outages American Thinker Dec 22, 2023 The title says it all. Maine officials were scheduled to vote on an EV mandate when a massive storm blew through causing the closure of Maine government offices and a state of emergency being declared by the [Green] governor in 14 counties. The sound of life-saving gas generators quietly mocked the event.
36,000 gallons of water used to douse burning Tesla on I-65 in Alabama Christmas night, 2023 The title says it all. The Tesla crashed and burst into flames. A total of three engines, two rescues, one ambulance, four water tankers, one squad, one brush truck and three command vehicles responded to the fire to marvel at the machine that's gonna save our planet. The article references an instance of a Nissan Leaf fire in Tennessee that required 45,000 gallons of water to extinguish. Way to save the environment, dudes!
I NEVER felt a positive twing for this industry. Electric Cars Are Filling Vehicle Graveyards as Hardly Anyone Wants to Buy a Used One The market for used electric vehicles (EVs) is plummeting. Problems started in China but have spread to Europe and the US. A subsidy-fueled boom helped build China into an electric-car giant but left weed-infested lots across the nation brimming with unwanted battery-powered vehicles. The Chinese government forced people to buy the inefficient vehicles and Biden is attempting the same in the US. EVs are not selling because consumers just don’t want them, despite massive subsidies to both the manufacturers and consumers. But capitalism is being blamed. https://needtoknow.news/2024/01/ele...rds-as-hardly-anyone-wants-to-buy-a-used-one/ _._,_._,_
I have read the same thing about used EVs. They don't last anywhere near as long as petroleum-powered vehicles, and nobody wants a used one whose battery will soon need to be replaced. I have also seen comments that the areas with high concentrations of EVs are having trouble with "rubber dust pollution" generated by the extra-heavy vehicles on lighter tires. The tires wear out several times fast on EVs than on conventional vehicles, due both ot the weight and the acceleration of the electrics. The tire wear thing is something I had never even considered.
Oslo has goofed with the push for EV buses. Batteries are freezing. https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/electric-vehicles-bus-crisis-in-oslo-part-deux/
(Reuters) -Rental firm Hertz Global Holdings is selling about 20,000 electric vehicles, including Teslas, from its U.S. fleet about two years after a deal with the automaker to offer its vehicles for rent, in another sign that EV demand has cooled. Hertz will instead opt for gas-powered vehicles, it said on Thursday, citing higher expenses related to collision and damage for EVs even though it had aimed to convert 25% of its fleet to electric by 2024 end
