daggone power went out. winds are blowing a storm out, must have felled a tree. dunno why my laptop battery is only 60%.
Our power went out for some time overnight on Monday night, but most of the storm missed us here in north Alabama. I remember waking up and hearing thunder and noticing that the light from the heater was not on sometimes during the night. Since the clock was also off, I have no idea what time of night it happened, or for how long; everything was working again by morning.
Mine finally came back on around 10AM. I heat with wood, but when the power's out, so is my well pump.
Sunny but very cold. Roads leading to the other cities are closed along with many businesses still. Deliveries can not be made,, including the mail .
It's a nice day today; sunny and high 60's. We've been cleaning up in the yard after the high winds blew through here on Monday night and noticed that two sections of fence are leaning. I guess the winds broke those support posts... oh, goody.
Was wondering why the heat kept coming on Monday night. Well, we had opened our back sliding glass door for some fresh air, but forgot to close it on Monday night. Since the overnight temp was near 30, that's why the heat kept coming on. I checked the door yesterday AM, and sure enough, it was partially open. Screen door was closed, but the cold air coming in from the sliding glass door open Monday night, kept the heat coming on. Sure glad I decided to open the shades yesterday/Tuesday AM and shut the door. Oh, I love being an older Senior! LOL
They have been threatening horrible snow storms but we keep getting into a hole and the storms blow around us because of our lake. They threatened concrete-like snow--wet small flakes--and although we have had that a few years ago, it didn't happen this time. Only about 4 inches of plain old snow. The wind was from the east, which is not common and my south barn doors blew off the hooks on the west side. Glad it was is not caused by the Siberian express they are threatening now. I Got everything put back together. But the next storm is supposed to be a doozy on Saturday. And I believe the cold will come with it, through next week. 12 below is cold but we have seen worse. Like I've said before, I think the global warming is just a shift in the earth's axis and winter comes here mid January through February instead of starting in December. The birds have been confused for around 8 years.
The magnetic field around the Earth is certainly weakening and moving, so that may have the birds confused. We don't get as many migrating through here either. Make sure your barn door is closed and latched solidly to keep it from "flapping" in the wind. Of course you know that already.
We are predicted to get the "arctic blast" on Saturday and for a few days following. I hope the stupid Texas power grid can hold up this time. Makes ya wanna go shop for an EV, right??
Three days till the Siberian express comes through here and then a few -20 days. Wisconsin has been installing experimental wind and solar farms. I had the first active solar array here in the 80's because it seemed sensible since the gov't gave 50% rebates to save energy, and you know what I found? Solar don't work in Wisconsin!!!
We are supposed to be down near zero by early next week, which is darn cold for here in Alabama. I sounds like the arctic cold front is hitting almost everywhere to some degree, even @Beth Gallagher will be feeling it, she said.
The western foothills, next to Summerlin, seen some snow, but very little. Searchlight, south of us, had some snow as well. We got some cold rain. Guess we didn't research Henderson enough, because we sure didn't think it got as cold as it is right now here. Still super glad we didn't get rid of any of our winter clothes/coats, because we will definitely need those clothes after moving up north.
It's snowing pretty hard here. When I first woke up at about 9 am, there hadn't been any new snow, but I went back to sleep to find the snow coming down very heavily an hour later. Southern Maine has had a lot of flooding, even to the point of washing some buildings away, but I figure that was God punishing the Southern Mainers for voting Democrat.
