I used to think that the concept of public hangings was barbaric.

Actually, I'll bet it was a deterrent.

The mail box thieves here went so far as to carry a battery-operated angle grinder that would cut through about anything, even the secure mailboxes. It is supposed to be a Federal crime, but nobody here seems to care about stopping it. We went to a mailbox service in part because FedEx and UPS are also delivered there as it gives us a "Physical Address", albeit not one on our property. It has solved a myriad of problems for us, as we no longer have to drive 35 miles and stand in long lines to retrieve packages and it keeps out real physical location somewhat private.

I gotta think that in some regions, doing that kind of stuff carries some risk with it.

O, I am sure they were armed as well, although I never personally encountered the thieves.

Don't worry; Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow nor gloom of night will stay the mail courier from his appointed rounds.
    Oh
    Nevermind. They forgot about thieves.

I got an Amazon delivery at 5:17 a.m. this morning, as evidenced by the Ring video of the goofy driver looking at her phone and walking directly into the big-ass trailer mirror on our truck. She just bounced right off that thing. :D

I can't imagine you can make any money doing that, medical bills notwithstanding. That being said, the ones I've chatted with seem to be happy, liking what they're doing.

I don't know what Amazon pays, but the UPS guys make a pretty good living. They earn it, though.

Yeh, I'm always surprised when my UPS guy took time to chat with me. I have no idea how they measure performance in these areas when it's nearly a 1 mile round trip from the road to my house, and there are lots of properties like it. As I said, since Amazon stood up their local warehouses, darned little has come via UPS.

I recently placed an order with Walmart, Amazon, Teeccino and DailyVita. They split into a total of 8 deliveries: (4) USPS, (2) Amazon drivers, (2) Fed Ex. Walmart uses Fed Ex and USPS. Amazon uses Amazon drivers and USPS. DailyVita and Teeccino both use USPS. Not a UPS delivery in the bunch, even a UPS>USPS hand-off.

I was just looking at my Amazon Prime membership page. In 2023 I placed 416 orders... YIKES. I'd say that 90% of them came via Amazon delivery vehicles and the rest mostly via the post office. Some days I will get two different Amazon vans delivering stuff.

Not so uncommon. I have gotten a LOT of supplements and other things over the years and used amazon. I may stop because of the counterfeiting and go elsewhere.

Same here. Supplements were the bulk of those orders to Amazon, Walmart and DailyVite.

Those knitting needles that I ordered back in December arrived last night !
The tracking had said they made it all the way to Huntsville, and then it said they were delayed, then it said they were lost, and finally, after a week or so of being lost, Amazon gave me a refund. And there was one of those changeovers from UPS to USPS, which is apparently where things fell apart in the original delivery.

Suddenly , on Tuesday, I got a notice form UPS that I had a package coming the next day, but when I looked , nothing said who it was from or where it was from, or anything at all about the package.
I had no idea what it might be, since I had not ordered anything and was not expecting any delivery from UPS.

In the meantime, I had found another set of knitting needles on Walmart that was even a better deal and ordered (and received) those knitting needles; so these are extra.
If amazon decides to charge me for them, I will just send them back, otherwise I am keeping them.
